  4. ffs, French media: Bayern are winning Kakuta chase French midfield starlet Gael Kakuta could sign a pre-contract agreement with Bayern Munich in January, according to a report in esteemed publication France Football. The 19-year-old, who has been capped by his national team at every youth level, has been tipped for a bright future at the top of the game but is said to be frustrated that his potential has yet to be rewarded with a long run of games in the Chelsea first team. Signed from Lens in 2007 it is believed that Carlo Ancelotti is eager to incorporate the midfield dynamo into his plans, especially given the trouble taken by the Blues hierarchy in clearing the player of any wrongdoing after he was slapped with a four month ban and huge fine for apparently breaking a contract to move to Stamford Bridge. Kakuta is currently competing against the likes of John Obi Mikel, Ramires, Michael Essien and Frank Lampard for a starting place; a tough task despite his obvious quality. Under contract at Chelsea until the summer, Kakuta is free to make contact with potential suitors six months in advance. German giants Bayern Munich are thought to be one of a number of top European sides, but with their pedigree and willingness to blood young players in the first team, it is thought they represent an agreeable option. http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/44351/French_media_Bayern_are_winning_Kakuta_chase.aspx

  6. Here we look at three of the personal duels.: Nicolas Anelka v Gabriel Heinze Marseille boss Didier Deschamps swooped for defender Heinze from Real Madrid and his instincts were right as Marseille became French champions. The one-time Manchester United man produced some key performances and will present Nicolas Anelka with a real contest at Stamford Bridge. Heinze is a tough-tackling, no-nonsense defender and Anelka will need all his guile and steel to get the better of his opponent. But while Heinz is a tough defender, he is also a cut above the rest going forward. The Argentinian can provide assists and score goals given the opportunity and has the experience to deal with all the pressure that comes with Champions League games. John Terry v Andre-Pierre Gignac The France international is extremely fast off the mark and capable of great skill with the ball at his feet. At 6ft 1in, Gignac has tremendous quality for a player with such a broad physique and Terry will need all his experience and international quality to cope with the 24-year-old. The striker made his name with Toulouse and is playing for the club he supported as a boy. He is now a fully-fledged France international and his eye for goal could cause an upset unless Terry can produce one of his outstanding European performances. Michael Essien v Lucho Gonzalez Gonzalez, known as the 'Commander' because of his leadership qualities, is an inspirational midfielder who can play in a variety of positions. He is mainly known as a central midfielder and his personal battle with Essien - 'The Train' - is an enthralling one. Gonzalez also possesses a crisp, fierce shot allied to some superb passing skills and a hardworking ethic that matches Essien's all-action game. The 29-year-old Argentinian international will give Essien a far harder match than the Chelsea man experienced in their last outing against MSK Zilina and the winner of this battle could have a real hand in deciding the outcome of the game itself.
