Plus let's face it, unlike Bayern who are the undisputed bullies and big dogs of their league, Chelsea is just one of many very attractive clubs in this league. Super talented players go to Bayern because they're guaranteed silverware and CL football every season. When Bayern declare their interest in a player and move for them they have basically no competition and almost always get their man.

Whereas when Chelsea is after a top player we have to compete with 3-4 other English clubs and are unwilling to pay what at least 2 of the others are. We end up losing out on actual top players to our rivals and have to settle for mediocre ones over and over again.

Only have ourselves to blame.

For example just this summer... Maybe we could’ve kept Chalobah, a HG talent, instead of splashing £35m on DD. Could’ve had Danilo for example for only a few more millions on top of what we spent on Zappacosta but we refused to pay it and City came in. Couldn’t convince Ox to sign for us. We then proceed to sign someone like Zappacosta who’s average and adds nothing new. Why not hold off, give one of the youngsters a chance to be Moses’ understudy (like Dujon Sterling) and save that £25m - add it to the pot with that £35m saved on DD for a top player instead?

Had the whole Lukaku situation which was embarrassing. We’re way too slow and ineffective in the market.

Settling for average players is one thing and it is indeed frustrating. What's wayyyyy more frustrating is knowing that we could have top players but not even making a serious effort to get them. We know Alexis can be had but don't try. We know that Mahrez is desperate to move to a top club but don't try.

This is why I feel bad for Conte. He looks to his rival Pep whose club have bought him literally every single player he's asked for so far. Likewise José. I know they sold their best player for crazy money, but even bloody Liverpool have spent £75m on VVD who is a player Klopp simply had to have regardless of price.

If Conte goes to the board and says he really, really wants Mahrez who would cost £50-60m I bet you they'd say no unless we sold someone for that same amount.

I agree.  But, I think it really comes down to his age.  We don't give multi year deals to anyone over 30, he's 29, so how many years are we going to give him in a contract?  2?

If he were a steal, then sure, maybe the club could make some sort of concession.  But not at 300K + a week, plus 30M in transfer fees, plus another 10M to the agent.  Nothing over the past 5 years suggests to me that the club is going to do anything like that.

EVERY SODDIN YEAR I torture myself watching for the slightest hint that we are in for a GOOD player. Notice I didn't say shit hot cause  my head couldn't handle that.

And EVERY SODDIN YEAR I say never again  minutes after the deadline days end!!

I know myself well enough by now that I'll go thru the same old same old till the day I pop my cloggs.

Unless of course I manage to find a better drug than the ones available now to take my mind off Chelsea!

Could care less about signing Sanchez if it means we keep Hazard AND Courtois at the club.

Keep them both and make the better signing - Mahrez.

Shouldnt make any difference.

All things in life have different values. Just like players. I know I'd pay nore for a PL proven goal scorer than Eden that goes missing against blinkin Leicester!

Maybe we mollycoddle him a bit too much. We are frightened to say owt against him cause hes precious bless him.

It is daft.. Start off the day excited thinking we'll do something major.. Then other clubs pull players in last minute.. Wait... It closes oh crap and someone does the soooo happy with squad with have blah blah speech why you think ah crap!

We're signing no one.. Maybe someone obscure who gets sent on loan but can't see us signing anyone who we need..

The board don’t quite operate like that. It’s more like - if you’re over 30 and you need a new contract you’re only getting a year’s extension. New players usually get given longer deals. I’d offer Sanchez a 3 and half/4 year deal personally.

Won’t ever happen though as we both know.

I'm not sure, to be honest, I don't remember the last time we bought anyone around 28, 29 and offered them a contract that took them to 31,32 +  I know new players get longer deals, like Barkley's 5.5 year deal, but he's only 24 (ish?)

Either way, it's moot.  Everyone knows it.  This isn't even a thread about a transfer rumour anymore, it should be re-named "Bitch about our transfer strategy".

I do think we'll get a LWB, but I wouldn't wager on the quality.

I put it in some thread earlier:  We're waiting for the new Nike deal.  Everyone knows that.

My comment was in jest.  Back in the summer, when nothing was happening, some people were convinced that deals were done, but we were waiting until July 1 after the new Nike deal took place so we could unveil them in the new Nike kit.

Of course, July 1st came and went and here we are.  Still need a LWB, a RW, depth at ST and in the middle of the pitch.

LOL OK ya got me. Thats the problem about blinkin texts you cant read sarcasm.

But if I could wave a magic wand for a couple of wishes my 1st would be to be in charge of the transfers for 1 window. I wouldnt go  off the head bonkers but I'd probably upset a few peeps. But my 2nd wish would be for some dangley protectors.

My transfers would go -  I'd sell Eden,Willi,Pedro,Baks,Bats,Cahill,Rudi and try to get as many out of Arthur,Bailey,Mahrez/Fekir,Sessegnon/Telles,Lemar,Isco/Dybala,Vidal. We would have an amazingly young, truly talented team who we could hopefully keep together many years with a good mix  of experience. Yep!! I'm a dreamer! But it would give us all a tingle in yer pants male and female!!

No problem, man.  It was a fairly obscure reference.  The tongue in cheek part about it was more of a reference to people who actually believed that.  Now, I don't want to sound like I'm shitting on those people.  In fact, I love them, and I have some magic beans that I'd be willing to sell to them as a token of my love.

Dybala is a pipe dream, but I'd love to see Fekir here on the opposite wing from Hazard.  No, I wouldn't sell Hazard.  Without getting in to the is he overrated/world class debate, the truth is, I love watching him play when he's on song.

The Jose season of 2 years ago taught me that while winning trophies is great, I've seen them win everything (except the World Club Cup and Euro Supercup).  If we're not going to splash the cash anymore (which equals trophies), which is fine, then I'd like to see a young attacking team, like Monaco of last year (maybe we should steal their technical director :D).  I was okay with not winning that season, but it sucked because we were still playing shit football.  Let's face it (even when we had him) Jose without trophies is Pulis.  The silverware at the end of the season is what made it enjoyable.
