The Perfect 3 Days in Tallinn, Europe’s Fast-Rising Capital of Cool

https://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/tallinn-estonia-vacation-planner-trip-itinerary-travel-guide

Long underestimated as just another gray, post-Soviet harbour city, Tallinn’s quickly growing into one of Europe’s cool creative capitals, right up there with Berlin and Helsinki. Estonians have always been DIYers -- building, brewing, and foraging -- especially during the Soviet era when resources were scarce. Thirty years after the Iron Curtain’s collapse, that spirit of self-reliance is igniting a new hustle of artisanship and innovation in Estonia’s capital.

More and more young Estonians are moving back to join the creative wave and open their own businesses: art galleries, design shops, and avant-garde restaurants. Chefs are whipping up interesting dishes that marry the artisan skills of their ancestors with new techniques they’ve learned abroad. The result is a tasty Nordic-inspired cuisine that's a far cry from the stodgy Soviet meals of yore (and definitely more affordable than the fancy plates in other Scandinavian countries).

And then there's the beer. With more than 80 breweries in the country, Estonia rocks one of the most exciting craft beer scenes in Europe right now. Last year saw the opening of some incredibly cool cultural hotspots that are reinvigorating Tallinn's industrial waterfront. Now's the time to check it all out while it's still flying under the radar, which is why we've named Tallinn one of the 20 Best Places for a Big Trip in 2020. Read on for the best places to eat in the city, things to do, and neighborhoods to check out when you're there.

When to visit Tallinn in 2020

Tallinn’s weather is at its finest from May through September, when there’s nothing like sipping craft beer on outdoor terraces or shopping at the Telliskivi Flea Market beneath sunny rays. Sampling seasonal produce like fresh cloudberries (little orange baubles growing in cool northern climes) at the Baltic Station Market or spruce tips straight from marshland trees is just an added perk.

Summer is also when a lot of awesome festivals go down. The dog days kick off with Tallinn’s Craft Beer Weekend on the first weekend of May. We’d also totally recommend the outdoorsy Midsummer antics in late June or the Night of the Ancient Bonfires in August. The latter is an homage to when villagers would light huge bonfires to lead sailors home. These days, surrounding areas and islands around Tallinn and Estonia spend the evening getting lit. You can see the blazes up close or across the Baltic Sea -- Google Maps even marks them, so you can bonfire-hop!

AIMÉ LEON DORE & PORSCHE UNVEIL UPCOMING COLLABORATION

https://www.opumo.com/magazine/aime-leon-dore-porsche-911/

If you don’t already know, we’re partial to a custom Porsche 911. In fact, we’re partial to a Porsche 911 of any kind, but when one comes along that has the elegant Aimé Leon Dore signature stitched to the RECARO racing seats, we're all in.

Aimé Leon Dore’s combination of preppy style and contemporary streetwear has marked the New York-based label as one of the most exciting brands of the moment. That was true even before it unveiled its first campaign video in collaboration with Porsche.

After months of research at the Porsche Museum, Aimé Leon Dore and Porsche have produced a very lively restored Porsche 964 Carrera 4 911. Not only does this machine boast a roar that most prides of lions would be proud of, it’s packed with meticulous, stylish details. The interior is crafted from Schott sunflower leather and luxurious Loro Piana houndstooth wool that gives a nod to Aimé Leon Dore’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection.

While the project is riddled with references that eagle-eyed Porsche and Aimé Leon Dore fans will pick up on, our favourite is the custom badge that adorns the rear grill. The forest-green emblem epitomises the style of this collaboration – it’s timeless, iconic and brimming with class.

“The Porsche 911 is perhaps the single most iconic automobile of all time, a car whose design synthesises many of the values that connect Porsche and Aimé – simplicity, ambition, tradition, and beauty.”
Teddy Santis
Teddy Santis, the founder of Aimé Leon Dore explains why his brand fits so well with Porsche, stating that since he began the label, Porsche has played a central role in the design process of collections.

Screamadelica is a great album Andrew Weatherall and Paul Oakenfold (Chelsea fan) were responsible for the indie rave crossover scene. A real loss RIP Andrew.

Hi Team,

I currently live in Seattle, USA and am making an impromptu trip to the mother land in March. It just so happens that Chelsea play Man City while we are there.

Just wandering if anyone has any tickets they would like to sell for the match? Long shot but thought I would dangle a carrot.

Midnight Studios Pro Leather Mid Sneakers

https://www.slamjam.com/en_SE/man/footwear/sneakers/mid/converse/midnight-studios-pro-leather-mid-sneakers/J186337.html

Continuing the inside-out theme from their original 2018 collaboration, Converse and Shane Gonzales Midnight Studios team up to deliver a white and egret Pro Leather Mid sneaker. Inspired by punk, the LA-based designer takes an anti-aesthetic approach, subverting the norm and challenging design preconceptions.

With Gonzales' rendition of a basketball icon, the Pro Leather Mid is flipped inside out, exposing detailing usual reserved for the interior of the sneaker. Constructed with luxurious suede uppers, Converse's instantly recognisable star and chevron branding sits alongside a backwards model designation stamp and the rarely seen material comp label printed to the heel panel.

The Perfect Porsche Does Exist and It Wasn’t Even Built in Germany

https://gearpatrol.com/2017/11/15/new-singer-vehicle-design-porsche-911-williams-f1/#1

Earlier this summer, it was announced that Singer Vehicle Design was partnering with both the Williams F1 engineering team and the famous Porsche engine designer and engineer Hans Mezger to create a reimagined 911 powered by a custom built air-cooled flat-six. Well, the wraps just came off the car, and it may be Singer Vehicle Design’s crowning achievement.

The engine itself is built from the ground up as an air-cooled engine for the 21st-century, with no expense spared. The result is a 500 horsepower, naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that revs all the way to 9,000 rpm — a work of art, all its own. The donor 1990 Porsche 964 was then pored over by the obsessive geniuses at Williams F1, who considered every component to determine if any could be re-engineered and/or rebuilt lighter and stronger. If you guessed “yes, many could be,” you’re right. Extensive use of magnesium, titanium and carbon fiber brought the total weight of the car down to 2,180 lbs, or about 200-pounds lighter than the current Miata.

And as with any 911 reimagined by Singer, the interior is a thing of beauty; with the help of Williams F1, this one is a minimalist masterpiece. Blood-orange leather covers carbon fiber seats and the transmission tunnel. Where upholstery usually acts as the primary aspect of the interior design, here it’s merely a complimentary accent to the bare composite and metal bodywork throughout the cabin.

Only 75 of these beauties will be bestowed upon us and as for pricing, per usual, it’s on request. Each example will be tailored to each owner, so prices will vary wildly, but you can expect each to fetch high six-figures. Singer has also opened a new shop in Oxfordshire, England, right next door to Williams F1, to build each car as it’s commissioned. Is this a sign that Singer is moving away from one-offs and into low-volume production? Time will tell.
