I guess the author, professors & Linguistic professors who wrote a book analyzing the lyrics of a rapper, and hailing him as a modern day Shakespeare, were wrong then.

I guess some guys with beards calling themselves 'the foo fighters', are intellectually superior to linguistic professors.

Yeah, because if Shakespeare was alive in the 21st century, Othello would have been 'bout some n*gga smacking up someone else's bitch in a club, and Romeo and Juliet is based on the actions of two rival gangs in LA who unite over an insane collaboration which ultimately ends in inglorious suicide. Plus the guy in the video is quite clearly Nas' uncle.

I'm not challenging the lyrical content of some rappers like Tupac who are poets, but when I listen to modern mainstream "hip-hop" I can't help but feel the genre is long-since dead.

That's the same with any music genre though. Because mostly all 'mainstream' music is awful.
