Chelsea have shown that they're not only about signing big money players for the here-and-now by winning the race for the signature of youngster Marko Mitrovic. The 16-year-old Swede reportedly joins the Stamford Bridge outfit on a £300,000 deal from Malmo having impressed Chelsea during a summer trial. The young striker has already been capped by Sweden at U15 level, and - being likened by the Swedish media to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Dider Drogba - is hotly tipped to have a bright future.Source: Goal.com

Maybe even first team football if he's as good as he seems.. must be to be Likened to Drogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic..BUT it does seem were trying to sign too many young players..we also need astablished, and proven signings...but if this lad turns out to be as good as they say... who knows..

The signing of young players and first team players is run completely separately from each other. He has got a good reputation and at 16 he could go straight into the reserves possibly where we are lacking a lead front man.He will have a LOT of competition though but that is only a good thing for our academy.

True, but how many players do you hear are the next Ronaldinho, the next Maradona, The next Cruyff, the next Kaka, etc....Its a thing thats thrown around too much imo. If he's as good as reports say then its good that we are showing an interest, but time and time again we end up losing out on top young talent to the other big euorpean teams. Its about time we started making ourselves more appealing to the next generation of world superstars

We are picking up some of the very best young talent around now especially in Europe. Obviously Stoch we picked up a couple of seasons ago and last season we picked up Tejera who is extrmely highly regarded, and this season we have picked up the likes of Jeffrey Bruma and Patrick Van Aanholt amongst many others who have very bright futures. Our problem is either picking up the ones from outside Europe or the slightly older players who would be verging on the first team straight away. The fact we look like signing Mitrovic is a good thing because we have a lot of forwards at the moment and if the club believe he is good enough to compete with them then that says a lot about him.

yes but i dont atm it doesnt seem like we are building for the future just more building in the trophy cabanet by buying really expensive players but i spse we heave cut back alot
Barring Sheva and Ballack our signings have pretty much been aimed at the long term. Mikel, Kalou, Essien, Cole, Alex ect.. all have many many years in them. The idea is to start producing our own which is why we are going for players like Mitrovic, but this doesn't happen overnight.

Where does that leave Sinclair and Sahar?
It leaves Sinclair in the first team and Sahar playing in the reserves for a while. Mitrovic is only 16 so will go into the youth team and be no threat at all for Sinclair and Sahar....

  • 5 weeks later...

Chelsea have clinched the signing of Malmo FF striker Marko Mitrovic.

The 16 year-old has signed a four-year contract and is moving to Chelsea for an initial £2.5 million.

Chelsea saw off competition from Arsenal, Inter Milan and Blackburn Rovers to land Mitrovic, who has been likened to Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
