Michael Ballack suggested van Dijk has had an easy time in the Premier League without some of the talented strikers of yesteryear present, but the claims have been met with opposition

Former Chelsea star Ballack claimed that van Dijk is only held in such high esteem due to a lack of top class strikers around in the modern day compared to years gone by.

Virgil van Dijk is very lucky to play in an era where there is no [Didier] Drogba , [Frank] Lampard, Alan Shearer, [Thierry] Henry, [Wayne] Rooney, [Robin] Van Persie, [Carlos] Tevez, [Emmanuel] Adebayor and Diego Costa in the Premier League," Ballack said.

"No wonder they think he is the best defender in the league."

What a Legend :cig:

:dance:....what a fucking legend. And its the fucking truth for real. The wankathon he has received is beyond anything the likes of JT Vidic RC etc have got. They even dare name him the best defender ever in epl lmao......lunatics and biased cunts.

Back in the day, defenders from top teams actually could defend.
Also, strikers were far better. Apart from Aguero, no striker would be considered World class back then. Torres, Drogba, Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez. Miss those days.

Zola mugging off prime Dennis Irwin will forever be premier league folklore

God imagine a side where Zola and Hazard operated the wings, with prime Lampard playing off of Drogba, and the Mak + Cesc in midfield.

Wow

Mental. I remember in FIFA 13 I created an all time Chelsea XI and played unranked online matches with them. Still the most fun I’ve ever had on fifa and ea decided to take away that feature.

Any idea where Ballack said that? Because am almost certain that quote is fake. No source quoted...the journalists must be desperate for headlines.

I saw that but again, no source on where he said it. I saw this quote circulating on Twitter from a fan...

I do not know, but they directly quoted him, and they cannot just make up a direct quote. The writer would get sacked and the paper sued if they just made it up out of thin air.
