Ross Barkley has been named as the face of the club for the upcoming season. He will be the feature player for Chelsea in TV and Social Media graphic.

(Sky Sports)

Only English player that's fit.

Eden used to be in there, now it's Barkley. I don't know if i want to laugh or cry

A guy who even shouldn't be at the club is now the face of the club? :D  Kante, our only true class player, should have been it. Or Azpi, the captain.

Kante, Jorginho, Azpi and Kepa should all be there before Barkley. Hell, when everyone's fit Barkley doesn't even make it to our starting XI. Bizarre choice

Hoping for double figures this season.

Said the exact same thing after he was one of our best players last preseason...Let's see!

Looked good during last preseason as well, so I'll keep my expectations in check.

However, we need a midfielder to bang in goals this season. I couldn't care less if it's Barkley, Mount or Kante at this point.

He was so slow to see runners and give a lot of late passes when he should have been quicker. He takes too long to control the ball and doesn't look up for the next options before receiving the pass (Something all top midfielders do). But at the same time he was central to our attack as he had a lot of touches of the ball in the first half. Immediately he went off, we forgot how to attack.

He's a dilemma

From best player of the preseason to the bench after one so-so performance.

What exactly is going on here?
I'm smelling favouritism already.

We had to put up with it long enough with Alonso and look how far Emerson has come along now. Lampard better no alienate players that could actually be of use.

Managers have favorites. It’s a pretty known and accepted thing. It’s their prerogative to rely on certain individuals to carry out his ideas.

it’s also about characteristics though. How they want their team to play and what they are expecting from each player. If conte were still here, Alonso would still be playing a big part - and likely well enough in that system.
