I believe that's nobody's fault. The rise of social media platforms has affected the popularity of fan forums.

This is definitely a factor. Maybe TC twitter account could be used to bring some new users?

I see some of the tweets have 30, 70 replies there, but I don't see a link to the match thread or any links to this forum. @Jason

Unfortunately, I don't handle the postings on TC's social media accounts and I don't even know the passwords. :chai:

Well that's unfortunate. Maybe you could tell the person who is in charge to add forum threads' links to the tweets, or simply take charge of the twitter account, like a boss.

One of the reasons or if not, the main reason why it got abolished because people constantly made a big fuss over the winner. If 'Person A' won it, then some members would moan why he/she won it when 'Person B' should have gotten it instead, every single time. Was meant to be a fun thing but it became something people constantly argued over with.

People came on here to moan and turn something in to a shit-show?

Yea, thinking back it did become a popularity contest. Was fun though.

I respectfully disagree, quality has nothing to do with popularity. Actually, most of the times those two things are opposite, popularity is being determined by how the masses perceive something and masses rarely take into account (or are even aware of) the actual quality of that thing. Especially in our days with the use of the social media, this has become even more evident than ever before, people say/act solely with the purpose of being accepted or liked by as many others as possible without even caring if they are true to themselves.

That "member of the month award" was meaningless imo and if people stopped posting entirely because it was abolished, then we are better off without them for sure. I can show you a million examples of posts made by "unpopular" members being entirely neglected, only to be followed by a post made by a "popular" member some time after, saying exactly the same thing and receiving 10 likes. This of course is always going to happen, with or without an award, but there is no need to turn a football forum into a popularity contest and that is what was happening back then.

You are right. It became a popularity contest but it was fun to many. It helps to have something fun included to keep members coming back.

Doesn't even have a quarter. There was an influx of trolls around 2013 time who were left free to cause havoc on here for months, it frightened away numerous quality posters, most of whom haven't returned to this day and the trolls most likely frightened away potential new members too.

This place when i joined was genuinely the best forum i have ever visited, today it's unrecognizable to those days.

Yes, that was a factor, but also banning of good and respected posters by egomaniacal mods/admins due to personal grudges and because they didn't always necessarily conform with the mainstream opinions. Latest example being @LeifOld members were driven away and trolls were being protected (don't think intentionally, but because of incompetence). Those same staff are not around anymore, having helped kill the forum off and then leaving themselves (though a few are still around). Thank you very much for that to them.

Also, one more thing I'm sure is contributing to not getting many new members, is that TC's main focus has shifted to being a shit tabloid wannabe. As somebody already mentioned forum isn't being promoted in any way anymore, Jim doesn't appear in the forum at all anymore, totally disinterested, only the main page with crap articles for clicks clicks clicks from people who don't care about the forum. I'm grateful for all Jim did, but he's a sell-out. Articles used to be created by the community and they were always thoughtful and insightful, now all we get is clickbait shit from Don Balon and the likes... and those same articles are spamming the shit out of the forum feed as well. I have stayed only because of loyalty and habit, but truth be told - the forum is crap and inactive now, I'm giving it a few more years before it's completely dead and TC turns into a laughing stock "news" source.

Like Special Juan said Leif should have been banned months ago (when he wrote Jews must be stopped). Toxic guy. Don't confuse currently active mods/admins with the other two.

Anyway I think there is still hope for the forum. People always say that everything was better years ago. It means we are getting old.:D

Why wasn't he then?

Different admins have different opinions. I am just saying that two admins, the one that banned members for being negative/controversial  and the one who thought Leif should not be banned for that statement are not active anymore. They post once in a while but I am not going to blame Jason or Special Juan for the current state of the forum, imho no one should.

The banning of Leif wasn't even the point of my post, so I'm not interested in discussing it in the Conte thread. You named names, I didn't blame anybody specifically and I will not.

You are the one who brought up Leif's banning in Conte's thread and criticized admins. I am just saying Special Juan's decision was justified and right. Don't confuse Leif's banning with others.

If you miss Leif's antisemitic comments there are other forums to read such things.

I brought it just as the latest example only, you are the one who "brought it up" per se. One of my other gripes is that I asked for how long he was banned because the "banned/warned members" thread isn't being used anymore, but never got a reply. Poor show. His banning might have been justified if he was warned before properly, I don't know, maybe. All I know is that his presence brought something different to this forum, made it more interesting to read and will be missed here, and I wonder if it was considered before banning, or it was done on a whim because his last unfortunate post was directed at an admin. Now if you want to continue this discussion, pls quote me in a more appropriate thread.

You posted this in Conte's thread manpe. Don't cry when I reply to you here. I am done with you. If you have further question you should ask directly to @Special Juan  and tell him how special Leif was for you and how much you miss him.

The quality of articles may be questionable but in Jim's defence, he needs revenue to keep this site/forum going. Donations have dried up long time ago and couldn't sustain the amount of donations from members, especially with the site's cost going up from time to time. And it's the same case with the articles, couldn't sustain doing the thoughtful/insightful pieces as members' life changes and weren't even getting paid.
