30 gone: Newcastle have ventured into our half twice in the last minute but otherwise it's all us. Dom having his best game for a while although all of his good touches have been outside the box. When he's had possession in the area he hasn't yet been able to do much with it.

A couple of good strikes from Tammy Abraham who seems to be playing centrally and furthest forward tonight. On flashed over and the other drew a smart save from the keeper.

Scott and Colkett are having pretty comfortable possession in the middle and as a result we're really bossing it. That said, everybody playing well, including both full backs who have bombed on well. As ever though, can't escape the feeling that Aina has a mistake in him.

Half-time 0-0. Totally one way traffic but not all that many clear cut openings. Best moment for me was a beautifully flighted pass from Charlie Colkett to Jay Dasilva breaking into the box. Jay pulled it down effortlessly and pulled it back to Dom around the spot but there were a lot of bodies in front of him and he couldn't quite get it under.

Completely bossing it out there. Newcastle can't keep a hold of the ball at all. Really should have scored a goal to consolidate the dominance though.

2nd half under way: brilliant turn and run from Mousonda ending with a shot from just inside the box saved low and at full stretch by the keeper diving to his right, great play. That may be the type of approach we need to break through.

54th minute: Tammy just missed a sitter. Another long spell of possession ended with a fantastic ball across the ground about 8 yards out.Tammy tried to steer it into the far corner but didn't make contact. Really though he was going to slot that one.

57th minute: One of their lads stretchered off following a challenge from Clarke-salter. A challenge for which our centre back was booked although replys suggest there may not even have been a foul.

Anyway that brought their crowd to life and it is a big one. One of the stands looks at least 75% full and there are other bodies behind both goals.

63rd: Sulic on for Clake-Salter. Didn't see any injury so maybe it was a precaution following the booking.

Crowd given as over 11,600. Well played Geordies. (Plenty of blue shirts around too.)

66th: Newcastle's best moment of the night. Nice looking trick by their striker to get in on goal but Bradly Collins pulled of a great double save to keep it level.

67th: Free header around the 6 yard line for Solanke from a Colkett dead ball. Dom should have scored but he didn't.

69th: Palmer on for Mousonda.

75 gone: Whisper it but Newcastle are looking just a little more threatening. If we're going to find a way through it might need a moment of individual brilliance, probably on the dribble. A power surge from Tammy maybe or a mazy Kasey Plamer special. Kasey is getting into the game but Tammy has been quiet since half-time.

Solanke had a really difficult half chance in the 92nd then Abraham put the ball into the net in the 94th but it was a hand of God moment. Unlike last year when they scored like that, the officials spotted the handball and chalked off the goal. 30 minutes of extra time coming.

1-0!!!

Izzy Brown. For once Newcastle were pressing us so when we recovered possession a through ball put Brown clear. He ran in from the half way line, took it round the keeper and slotted home.

Half-time in extra-time: 1-0. We have retaken control and have racked up two or three more efforts on goal since going in front. A second would surely finish it.

well some needed extra playing time .. thanks greavsie

Pleasure. I always enjoy watching those lads play.

We miss Boga's ability to do something magical when he's on his regular injury breaks. Even without him though there is just too much quality in this side for most of the opponents they face. The opposition may challenge for a while but most of them just get worn down by our football.
