Hamburg playmaker Rafael van der Vaart is wanted by Premier League clubs, according to the Dutchman's agent. Van der Vaart is looking to leave Hamburg and has previously expressed a determination to join Spanish side Valencia. His compatriot Ronald Koeman has recently been appointed coach at the Mestalla and would be keen to sign the former Ajax captain. But while Valencia maintain an interest in the midfielder, Van der Vaart's agent Bayram Tutumlu claims there is strong interest from other clubs. Difficult "Now, it is very difficult for the player to join Valencia because we have important offers from other big clubs in Spain and England, but he has always loved Valencia," Tutumlu told Las Provincias. "I have spoken with him and he said that if Valencia present an offer he will study it. "But I know the salary being offered by president Juan Soler is very difficult to agree to." Reports have claimed that Arsenal and Newcastle United are the two Premier League sides keeping an eye on the situation.SkySportsWe should really be interested in this guy.. Hopefully we try to sign him

Of course he's a good player, however would prefer us to go with some other targets like Modric or Huntaleer. We have Ballack and Lampard in that central midfield more attacking role, we don't need him. We could do with another winger and let a striker go and a a better one in. TrueBlue, we obviously need another winger we only have three at the moment and Joe Cole and Phillips can't cross. We need a creative one.

We clearly need a playmaker imo.. we are lacking in that department.. Neither Lamps nor Ballack (depending on if he's actually here next season) are playmakers.. They are box-to-box but not the creative force that people like Moutinho, VDV, Modric, Lulinha etc are

I still like the idea of moving Joe Cole into a creative midfield role.Even when he's on the wing, he very rarely gets to the line, he always cuts inside and does his damage from there.

The agent of Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart admits an "important offer" from England has arrived for the Holland international. Chelsea have been linked with Van der Vaart and his agent, Bayram Tutumlu said: "At this moment it is very difficult for the player to go to Valencia because we have important offers English and Spanish clubs." Tutumlu admits Valencia's rival offer falls well short of Hamburg's valuation.

Our interest has aparently been there for a while. We NEED a playmaker desperately, we are seemingly looking at a lot of options which is good and this guy would be a good option should we get him...

Chelsea Looking For Van Der Vaart's Creativity

A report in the Daily Telegraph this morning claims that Chelsea are ready to splash out on Hamburger SV playmaker Rafael van der Vaart.

The lack of a playmaker seems to be sticking out like a sore thumb from Chelsea's recent displays, and Avram Grant is determined to put that right.

Frank Lampard - undoubtedly one of the best box to box midfielders in the world - is hardly the man for that role, which has left all the creative burden on the shoulders of the wide men.

With Didier Drogba set to be out for at least two months for a variety of reasons, the direct brand of football is pretty much out of the window, and Chelsea need to get their passing game right.

Grant, charged with playing some attractive football, is convinced that a natural number 10 is what the team seems to be missing, with much of the plan under Mourinho involving finding Drogba with long balls and taking it from there.

The number one choice - particularly for Roman Abramovich - seems to be Ronaldinho, but Barcelona will only sell the at the end of the season.

The Blues have now singled out Hamburg's Rafael van der Vaart, who has been in red hot form once again this season, spearheading the North German club's Uefa Cup and Bundesliga challenge.

The Dutchman - who moved from Ajax for a paltry 5.5 million euros two-and-a-half years ago years ago - is rated very highly by compatriot, Director of Football and Chief Scout Frank Arnesen, and an offer in the region of 25 million euros could be enough to convince Hamburg to sell.

It is also believed that his inclusion in the team will bring out the best in Andriy Shevchenko, who played some of his best football when he had Kaka behind him, and has since struggled with the Blues' direct approach.

Grant is keen to settle on an attacking 4-3-3 with a creative midfielder/forward in a roaming wide role, much like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or Robinho seem to be working for their respective clubs.

good player... would he struggle to settle to the Premiership.. thats the question..and we do have alot of midfield players.. and as someone stated up there ^^ Joe Cole is better in the middle of the park than on the wing

i wouldn't want him here, not because he isn't good but because he is constantly injured... he'd robben a run for his money when it comes to injuries..

VDV would be an interesting signing, if we knew were heavily interested I'd definitely say yes, although I would like to know where he would fit in?? I'd see him as a potential Essien replacement during the African Nations.

Chelsea's German scout Rainer Bonhof saw Rafael van der Vaart star for Hamburg in their 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen on the weekend.

"I will not betray who I looked at," Bonhof told Bild. "But if you watched the game, you will know who caught the eye."

Asked about Bonhof's presence, Van der Vaart said: "The interest of other clubs is secondary for the moment.

"I would like to finally win with HSV and get a title at the end of the season."

From Daily Mirror:

Chelsea are interested in Hamburg's 25-year-old midfielder Rafael van der Vaart.

The Dutch international was watched at the weekend by a Blues scout as he scored in a 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

Hamburg value their captain at £15million but must sell this summer if they want the market rate - his contract runs until 2010 but he could leave for £1.1m in 2009.

The free-kick specialist is also being pursued by Juventus, who began talks with the Bundesliga club in January, but no deal has been done.

Van der Vaart said: "At the moment there is interest from two clubs."

Striker Fabio Quagliarella claims Manchester United are trying to sign him. Quagliarella, 24, plays for Serie A side Udinese and is expected to be in Italy's Euro 2008 squad.

Quagliarella said: "When I heard Manchester United were interested in me, I was very flattered. Wayne Rooney has always made a great impression on me, even though I have only ever seen him on television."

Van Der Vaart is exactly the sort of player we need to be looking at to improve our team for next season. Hopefully we will be able to pick him up because he is a quality player.
