Match: Chelsea 2-4 Tottenham

Chelsea scorers: Brown, McEachran(pen)

Match report: http://thechels.net/2013/08/under-21s-chelsea-2-4-tottenham-hotspur/

Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxnoxBpj5oA

Thoughts: Chelsea struggled this match, Tottenham were by far the moxt experienced side (we only had 1 player - Josh - who was not a teenager starting that match), and I also thought they were more aggressive and cynical off the ball, which I guess our youngsters will have to get used to in some matches.

Match: Southampton 1-4 Chelsea

Chelsea scorers: Davey, Brown, Baker, Feruz

Match report: http://thechels.net/2013/08/under-21s-southampton-1-4-chelsea/

Highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkQFPywUQuM

Thoughts: Much better match from Chelsea today, would urge you to watch the highlights as we scored 4 very nice goals. Inclusion of Baker who didn't start against Tottenham was clear, as I thought he was our best player. Kiwomya's really growing into his RW role IMO, looks more comfortable there than a year ago. The defenders did extremely well, Ake and especially Sswekwmamebamemamambo in full-backs defended well and Christensen and Davey were rocks at the back. Brown looks very impressive. Same age as Boga! He reminds me of Lukaku but seems more naturally gifted as a footballer.

I will try and do more of these updates

Ignore the above post which is just for my benefit :)

Match: Chelsea 5-1 Leicester

Chelsea Scorers:Brown x2, Feruz x2, Swift

Match Report:http://thechels.net/2013/08/under-21s-chelsea-5-1-leicester-city/

Highlights:

Thoughts:Safe to say we're back to form now? Two good wins in a row. Brown is really impressing, the guy's the same age as Boga. I don't think that, despite his young age, he's that far away from a first team chance. Certainly wouldn't mind seeing him in the CC/FA Cup games. I just generally think he could already be a handful occupying two CBs on his physicality alone (obviously much more to his game though).

Feruz seems back to form which is good to see. Both him and Brown actually interchanged this match, sometimes deep, sometimes up front. I think this suits both of them, and will really aid their development. The midfield 3 of RLC, Swift and Baker was strong and balanced as we'd expect by now from three talented midfielders. Defence was strong, Christensen a rock. Ssekajemamamebamamabo and Aké still filling out well in defence.

B.Clifford came on second half and did well but TBH he is too good/too comfortable at this level and it showed, hopefully his next loan he'll get games. This game also highlights our depth. No Kiwomya, Boga, or Davey, Aina and Nditi could be starting on another day too and Traoré could well be in this team if he gets a permit.

No clean sheet yet, goal conceded at the end of the match when the result was decided and both sides getting tired. Sure it will come though.

Match: Chelsea 2-0

Chelsea Scorers: McEachran(x2)

Match Report:http://thechels.net/2013/09/under-21s-chelsea-2-0-norwich-city/

Highlights:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Muo7Vaz2hNE

Thoughts: Didn't actually manage to catch this game but looks like another solid game for us. McEachran is too comfortable for this level, but I guess he's not really needed at first team level so may as well play U21s until he gets a loan. I'd guess Chalobah was in the process of the loan/travelling with the squad.

Also from what I've read Billy Clifford and Baker put in two very good performances alongside Josh too.

I watched most of it and other than the two you mentioned, Ssewankambo (yes crazy name :D) did very well against one of the highly rated Murphy twins and Christensen was excellent. Best player on the pitch IMO.

Match:Chelsea 2-3 Everton

Chelsea Scorers:Swift, RLC

Match Report:http://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/3468659/title/under-21s-report-everton-3-chelsea-2

Highlights:

Thoughts: This match wasn't live, but still pretty disappointing to see we went from 2-0 up at HT to 3-2 down, with two of the goals pretty soft/unlucky. Blackman seems to carry on losing concentration too easily but he has still has a real natural talent for shot stopping. Swift is in very good form. As I type today he has scored 2 and assisted two in our 4-0 win over Steaua in the U19 CL, really developing a goalscoring touch with 11 goals since U21 pre season. I thought he'd kind of sink into the background after being more of a backup last season but he's back into the fore now.

Match:Chelsea U21s 2-1 City

Chelsea Scorers: Christensen, Swift

Match Report:http://thechels.net/2013/10/under-21s-chelsea-2-1-manchester-city/

Highlights:

Thoughts: Another good win against a talented academy. The best player was probably Aké who is really impressing in the LB role. He has the athleticism to get up and down the left hand side, defensively solid and reads the game very well(positioning/anticipation often spot on), but also adept going forward, smart runs, comfortable with the ball. In the first half he put 4 balls into the box and all 4 reache their target. One was an assist for Christensen. Impressed with him so far.

Sswekamebwmamabanamabanmanammambo still doing well at RB. Reminds me of Ivanovic a bid, just shorter. Kalas was playing which was good, just looked comfortable enough and looking forward to seeing him for the first team. Christensen also solid.

Baker played deeper espiecally first half, almost as a tempo setter, looked a bit uncomfortable with some of his passing and ball retention though. RLC did well in the box to box role, very quick feet. Swift carries on impressing and scoring, timing his runs very well. Feruz, Brown and Kiwomya all meh, quite wasteful. Boga came back this game too and showed flashes of his talent.

Match:Chelsea 3-3 West Ham

Chelsea Scorers:Baker, Swift, Aké

Match Report:http://thechels.net/2013/11/under-21s-chelsea-3-3-west-ham-united/

Highlights:

Thoughts:A good game that we came from behind twice from to get a point. Omeruo got a start to gain some fitness and looked fine. Played alongside Aké who is excellent and has confused me again as to which position I think he should play. I mean he is small but he's such a smart player that, at reserve level at least, I never see it as a disadvantage. He's even a threat at the other end for set pieces. Kevin Wright at LB seems very naive defensively though.

I'm not sure what Billy Clifford is still doing playing at this level, wasn't there supposed to be a loan for him? Involved indirectly in 2 goals with his sharp shooting. Shame he couldn't build on the Colchester loan. Swift improving all the time, his rise this season and play style reminds me of Aaron Ramsey. Baker still adapting to a deeper role I reckon.

Nice to see Boga back, I miss his dribbling. Created the opening for the first goal. Mesmerising at times, fantastic talent. Feruz worked hard up front too. RLC made good runs from midfield when he came on, but poor finishing.

Also highlights of last week's game against Sunderland on EskWeston's channel which was away and I missed.

No more updates for a while. That was the last U21 league home game for 2013.

Thoughts: A pretty generic draw with Newcastle. Boga was just coming back from injury in this game so nice to see him score.

Match:Chelsea 5-0 Bolton
Chelsea Scorers: Brown x3, Baker and Swift
Match Report:-
Highlights:

Thoughts: Would urge you to watch the highlights of this game, as all the goals scored were great. Swift continues to score goals, really impressed with him this season, and Baker as well continues to really influence at this level. Someone I know claims he met him in a club and he (Baker) said he may be going on loan to the football league in January so watch this space. Brown on the scoresheet for the first time in a while, but that doesn't mean he's been poor, he's played a slightly deeper, more withdrawn role in recent weeks and it showcases how good his all round game was. Against Cardiff in the U21 cup he was really dictating play, dropping deep and releasing runners ala Rooney/Drogba. We have some talented strikers at yuoth level but I feel he may have the most potential.

Billy Clifford may be joining KV Mechelen (probably on loan). Can somebody please tell me something more about him? What are his strenghts and weaknesses?

TBH haven't seen him play for a long time..but from what I can gather/seen from highlights now he's a CM/attacking midfielder, decent on the hall. I remember him being quite lightweight in pre-season 3 years ago, that may have changed. He scored some nice goals at Colchester last season. Decent midfielder
