Was out of position for the second goal. Made a few other mistakes like the shoulder pass to a Utd player when he should of just headed the ball away and when he won the tackle on Rafael and tried some stupid skill instead of a simple pass. Slightly improvement though.

He wasnt out of position,he was doing what a CB should, covering Cole.Cahill was at fault for not clearing that ball.

Both Luiz and Cahill pass no confidence at all to me and both were bad.The only good thing about Luiz today was that he showed leadership skills

Once again, David is criticized for the style of his play, rather than his performance.

He was Chelsea's best defender against United.

RVP beat Cahill twice, once for each goal. So much for being predictable...

However, can you really fault Cahill too much? RVP is one of the best strikers in the world and I feel Chelsea (read RDM) should've handled him differently: some f* cover?!

Take it back cowboy.

1. Look at the time I posted this. It was literally in the first minute of the game, before his O.G., before Van Rapist's goal, before Chicharito's goal. So my post being at all being a criticism of his performance would be apocryphal.

2.You damn right I was criticising his style and not his performance. That was the whole damn point of this post.

3. I have no idea what Gary Cahill has at all do with my post, as I recall writing about Luiz not Cahill. If I wanted to write about Cahill, I would have posted in his thread.

Are you fucking kidding me? please tell me you are

Are you fucking kiddding me? Is that all you've to say? Are you sure you didn't forget to call me 'cunt' or a 'dickhead'? You have anything else worthwhile to say?

Luiz and Cahill as a partnership does not work, it has almost always ended badly against any half decent team Munich the exception to the rule.

A new centre half has to be high priority this summer, these two should never play together again.

Hansen had a few valid points to be fair to him, but to just pick up on just david luiz performance was a bit harsh, cahill didnt have the best of games either.

Pick on Luiz cause it's easy. Joke of an analyst. Not saying he had a good showing, but he was still the best overall out of the back 4.

His own goal!?! Petr is still trying to put the post back together after it got shattered by RVP strike.

I think it's enough to say I completely disagree with your opinion concerning David. I'm willing to bet that if we bring any other defender, regardless of fame, he will suffer the same way. People wanted a more attacking-minded side, but don't seem to be willing to pay the price: guess what, the price is that the defenders will be exposed.

Both Cahill and David are relatively young for defenders. I personally think David will become one of the best defenders in the world very soon (he's already very good). Brazil management seem to believe the same (so do Chelsea's). Positioning and awareness are traits defenders learn as they age; much harder to improve technique though.

It just baffles me that all that these same defenders have accomplished (you know getting tested by the best among the best) in the last CL can be forgotten so easily after a drastic change in the system. And yet, people don't connect the dots: same players, different system.

Anyway, I'm tired of defending Luiz here. If you really want a boring drone in defense, I am not the one you must convince.

What on earth are you rambling about? How on earth do you get any of this out of "Unpredictable and eccentric. Great adjectives for a foward, not for a defender"? That is hardly bashing Luiz, if it's bashing at all. And once again you bring up Cahill, why? I didn't even mention Cahill once, none of this about Cahill!

I for one didn't say I wanted a more attacking side, I belong to the typical Italian school of thought where defence takes priority. I fell in love with Jose's boring old Chelsea and if I had it my way it would still be that way and I'm not saying I dont' appreciate this new style.

You seem to believe I'm saying that Luiz is a terrible defender, but when and where have I said that? You're pulling things out of the air. I said he has two traits that are not typically desirable in a defender, but once not once did I say he was a bad defender. Mate, you have missed the point and taken everything out of context.

Does anyone remember Coloccini's early years as a defender? For both Milan and his first season with Newcastle, he was pretty woeful. Excellent technique and ball skills but pretty much a zero at positioning and was apt to run around like a headless chicken. Now at 30, he's one of the EPL's best defenders.

If Luiz can learn how to defend properly and mature into his role, he'll be a world beater.

lol I too favor a more defensive style. I've lost too many times to the Italians not to respect the way they play. However, that's not what Chelsea wanted to do with the new signings and the system used. The defense will be exposed. It's just math...

However, once again, I will disagree concerning style: a player is either good enough or not. I prefer my CBs to be as skillful as possible for those times when they have to face pacey, strong, and skillful forwarders, like the ones ours had to deal with in the last CL. In those times, I want my defenders to be able to take the ball from the attackers without fouling them... without having to rely only on good positioning, or strength, or even height. I want a defender who is just as confortable on the ball as the forwarders: someone like Baresi for example.

You see the whole point of my original post was that while Luiz is very capable and talented his prone to unpredicatable and eccentric decisions. For instance against Tottenham when he heads the ball towards Cech without even looking at him; that's a very dangerous thing to do even more so when you consider that Defoe almost latched onto it. Another is against United in 2011 when he charged off the line to knee Rooney in the stomach. That's what I'm referring to, those strange little decisions he makes every so often. Somtimes looking at his skillset I believe he is more suited to play in the fullback position, he is quick, physcial, strong at passing and dribbling and loves to attack.

1. charged from the defence and got turned by van persie

2. charged from the defence and united sprayed the ball wide and and got it into the box with luiz still trying to get back

3. bad position for the own goal. almost as if he was standing so deep to block the shot

4. horrible long balls early on in the game

+ the needless push on rvp after the red cards. i'd have loved to have depth in the CB department.

Play him against mid-table sides. Bench him when facing a top 4 side. Although he loves Chelsea, but someone needs to get his head right.
