@Blue Armour You said that our title challenge went up in smoke after Klopp said we are the favorites (or something along those lines)...might have something more to do with our own manager playing down our chances after beating Leeds. Instead of trying to instill belief in the players, our manager tried to manage expectations too much. We might not be the finished article just yet but given the nature of this season, we could have at least given it a good go but alas, we're in 9th and 7 points off the top.

I miss Drogba :P

On a serious note, our current lot are too naive.

Lampard should instruct players like Pulisic to play for the foul at every opportunity. Just like Morurinho did with Hazard.

Teach them the dark arts.

Frank is too naive and too nice. As all younger modern ex player British coaches are because these sort of things are frowned upon and it is believed that all these things stemmed from “foreign coaches and players bringing into into the league”. Remember the spy gate thing? Unbelievable. Criticism Bielsa got for an approach which he’s been using throughout his career in which he also done the presser thing where journalists were blown away with his meticulous nature and approach. An approach Villas-Boas said Mourinho also adopted while here... yet British manager saying its wrong and British football being “the best and biggest”, its hugely frowned upon. Naivety. Guardiola is an absolutely revolutionary manager and has been since 2008 but his teams have been doing tactical fouls and getting calls by players over exaggerating fouls for seasons upon seasons. Mourinho also. No surprise either, these are two of the most successful and most revolutionary managers of the last 20 years. Yet British managers, we will do it our way we are British and we never dive or never played dirty or never used unfair advantages bla bla bla. Thats why bar Fergie and Brian Clough, there haven’t been very many successful ones in recent time. And at this rate foreign coaches will continue to be trend setters and win the big prizes. Football is ultimately about winning. And these guys will literally do anything to he successful.

Yeah Drogba tried it on for half a season or so ? Didnt need to cheat inthe end, just pure power.

Definitely too naive, all we get do in terms of 'dark arts' are Kantes professional fouls :P

When you see how Lampard is making us play right now, you can see why the big clubs in England always go for foreign managers and there aren't many successful English managers, because they aren't tactically innovative, not in-tune with modern football and still play football from decades ago.

old school brit superb managers had viscously combative and often fairly dirty (or at least hard as fuck) teams

You might be right. Honestly it depends on what Lampard really says in the dressing room, rather than in public.

I remember that Werner in his early season interviews was talking about title challenges and winning the CL with Chelsea. Silva also made comments about coming here to win trophies.

Players like that NEED challenges like that to stay motivated. If behind closed doors, Lampard was maintaining the same pessimistic attitude that he showed outside, then it's little surprise that we are where we are now.

Lampard has not been showing much positive body language on the pitch these days, so it wouldn't surprise me if that is indeed the case. All too symptomatic.

I also made a comment earlier in Dec about how recent Chelsea teams tend to go into a slump midway though the season if the title challenge becomes unrealistic. We seem to be right on cue.
