Download a file recovery application. It worked with me before, only tip is that until you recover them you don't create any new files on the disk that had them originally.

I always press shift when hitting delete because I'm too lazy to go to the bin afterwards to delete them again.

I always take care when pressing shift, when I'm lazily deleting stuff I usually just send them to the thrash bin and deal with it another time. I guess that's the whole thought process behind the system of shift vs. non-shift deleting anyway
