Branislav Ivanovic

Trying to be rational about this new  deal. As bad as he has been for the past 18 months he is a big character in the dressing room. If he's a senior member on limited minutes next season then it won't be a bad deal. But if he's starting games then we can already write-off next season. Same goes for Oscar, Cahill and a few other jokers.

It all depends on the new manager but I believe that Ivanovic will retain his first team spot next season and the team will continue to leak lots of goals.

Ridiculous, isn't it? This bum gets a new deal. JT is yet to get, Ash and Lamps didn't get one but this fraud does. Smh at this club.

Getting paid 120.000 a week for doing nothing extraordinary. If he had any dignity, he would have said thanks but no thanks. All those countless times where he has been humiliated, from Kompany making him his bitch in the air to Tadic, his own countryman, humiliating him with the ball at his feet, and he gets this princess treatment?? F**k him, it's like the last and only realistic hope for him to eternally f**k off with his uselessness is to get injured for a long time, and someone else takes his place like Bellering pushed Debuchy far far away in the pecking order.

Oh, please. He doesn't not get paid that much, he never has and never will.

I reckon the contract is (at least, in part) due to the sheer amount of playing time he (still) gets. We all know that Mourinho had an obsession with the Serb and their relationship was such that it was unsurprising to see Jose sacked before a rapidly declining Ivanovic was ever dropped. Remember how a couple of years ago Steve Clarke said Ivanovic was Mourinho's favourite player? Whilst it may not have been that obvious back then, by the end of his tenure it most certainly was. Hiddink, meanwhile, is just trying to steady the boat and is not willing or currently able to make the large-scale changes that you would expect from our next manager. Technically inept and immobile, I would be very surprised if Ivanovic is still a regular in the starting 11 next season.

I'd say it's nailed on that he's starting for us going into the 2016/17 season. Unless Guardiola was the new manager (which obviously isn't happening) he'll be used as an "experienced general" and one of the first names on the team sheet.
