Roman is apparently interested in bringing in a 'footballing mind' into the boardroom by appointing a Sporting Director. One that would work with Cech to handle all footballing affairs whilst Marina handles the business side.

The rumored individual is ex Barcelona sporting Director Ramon Planes.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly trying to bring former Barcelona director Ramon Planes to his behind-the-scenes team at Stamford Bridge.

Abramovich has overseen a fantastic period of success since he took Chelsea over in June 2003. In fact, no English club has won more major trophies than the Blues since his arrival.

Chelsea have won five Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues – among other silverware – under Abramovich’s ownership. What’s more, they added their first Club World Cup title on Saturday by beating Palmeiras.

Countless star signings – as well as academy stars – have proved vital to the club’s success under Abramovich.

As a result, Sport has claimed that the club chief wants to ensure continued success by adding Planes to his backroom team.

The 54-year-old is currently out of work following his exit from Barcelona in November last year.

However, he made his name as a director at the La Liga club by finding several young talents who now feature in Barcelona’s first team. They also look like being stars of the future.

Indeed, Planes has discovered the likes of midfield duo Gavi and and Pedri. The pair, 17 and 19 respectively, are already firmly in head coach Xavi’s Barcelona plan. They also have a combined 14 caps for Spain.

Planes also helped bring Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araujo to Barca. The 22-year-old is also a staple in the team and reportedly has transfer interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

Sport adds that Planes will ‘almost certainly’ continue his career outside of Spain.

But while Chelsea want to bring him to Stamford Bridge, another English club has also met with him to propose him a role in their project.

Who is Ramon Planes? Meet the man who signed Pedri and Araujo

https://barcauniversal.com/watch-who-is-ramon-planes-meet-the-man-who-signed-pedri-and-araujo/

Ramon Planes has a deep history in Spanish football but now finds himself in an important role, as part of FC Barcelona’s sporting structure. Hired by Bartomeu, and having worked under Eric Abidal, Planes will now remain under the presidency of Joan Laporta, where he will continue to work in a crucial role surrounding Barcelona’s sporting project, alongside Mateu Alemany.

Check out our full video below to gain an understanding of exactly who Ramon Planes is; including his past, his work so far at Barcelona, and whether or not his continuation is good news for Culers.

The news of Planes’ survival, with Laporta’s arrival to the presidency of Barcelona, was a bit of a shock. Indeed, having been hired by Bartomeu and perhaps having been a sympathiser of Barcelona’s old board of directors, Planes could have easily been pushed aside. Clearly, Laporta and Alemany have been impressed by Planes’ work in the sporting structure of Barcelona, and have elected that he remains a part of the board.

His most notable signings have been those of Ronald Araújo and Pedri, whom he scouted and acquired from obscure locations and for cheap prices, with both players turning out to be successes so far. It is Planes’ good reputation and work so far at Barça that has ensured his survival, although we shall see how he acts, and what vision he has for the future of Barcelona’s team, in the coming months.

I really hope that is true. The more people with a football background having input on incoming players, the better.

I agree. He also has a keen sense in what profile to look for.

He could be our Txiki

https://barcauniversal.com/watch-who-is-ramon-planes-meet-the-man-who-signed-pedri-and-araujo/

Planes or Campos would be a blessing for Chelsea alongside you Cech could continue to mature and build a great team with you for the future.
