Funny people say this about Silva when he practically cost us a goal in that 3-3 game at West Brom.

On paper, Silva is an upgrade over our other CBs but on the pitch, the jury is still out for me whether he is actually an upgrade or will he just be inconsistent as our other CBs.

Yes but I think he has passed the eye-test apart from that moment

He may not have put a foot wrong since then but let's not kid ourselves here considering he has played only against West Brom and Crystal Palace in the league.

West Brom, once they got the 3-0 lead, were happy to just sit back and defend that lead. They didn't even bother to have a go at us.

Crystal Palace are hardly an adventurous side under Roy Hodgson. They set up defensively and just tried to play on the counter.

Long story short, West Brom and Palace have hardly been challenging opponents for Silva given how pragmatic they were. Assuming he plays both, the Sevilla and Man United games will give a better indication of whether he is an upgrade or will he just be inconsistent in this team.

He's right. You can see in this forum. nobody blames Zouma

If we're going to blame individuals for mistakes, that's one thing. But it looks like there are different individuals vying for that every weekend.

Against West Brom it was Silva and Alonso.

Today, you could also argue that Havertz, who otherwise played well up front., imagined that he was back in the Bundesliga when he sloppily gave up possession for the first goal, and lost his man (Walcott) for the their 3rd goal.

You can blame it on individual errors for the odd upset, or if it's the same repeat offenders.

Not sure that applies to us anymore. It doesnt seem that simple

You're right. All these individual mistakes seem to happen on a weekly basis, which seems to suggest a deeper malaise in the team. Even if it's not entirely wrong, the "individual mistakes" reason feels like a cheap cop-out at this point.

Or it means that those individual mistakes are caused by players that are just not good enough. Kepa is just not good enough and he will always make mistakes like that.

And if it is a deeper problem like you say, that would mean Kepa and the players should not be blamed for their individual mistakes and it should all be Lampards fault.

We see the same individuals make mistakes on a regular basis but who is the one that keeps picking them to play? Moreover, no player is perfect and players should be set up in a system where their strengths are highlighted and mistakes are minimized but we are seeing more of the latter than the former. The manager's job is also to iron out mistakes from players - as much as possible, if not to next to zero - and if they are still making mistakes, then they really should be binned and not allowed near the team again. But if they are, then only one person is responsible for that because he picks the team.

And what system makes Kepa or Caba better? It is about making a system, which suits the maximum amount of squad members. In my opinion, guys like Kepa, Caba, Alonso etc. Will never be good enough. Liverpool can't fix Adrian's faults and we will see how good they are without VVD. Because they have according to most Fans a world class system in every regard. So defensive problems should not occur

Havertz will make this kind of mistake couple of times more because he still is in Bundesliga mode. I am also pretty sure Hazard and Willian also made those kind of mistakes in the past.

For all the doom and gloom we are two points off Liverpool who are 2nd.

Doesn't look like we will have a 90+ season this year (if Van dijk is out for long)

Would wait a few weeks before writing us off honestly. The basis is there for a team that can win most of the games in this league

You're sorely mistaken if you think this is about the goalkeepers only when it comes to the system.

But that doesn't tell the whole story, does it?

Liverpool have had a tougher opening 5 games compared to us and they are the ones who gotten more points out of it.

And mind you, we are only 2 points ahead of Man United, who are supposedly very shit under Solskjaer. Lose to them next weekend and we'll be behind them...

And they have a game in hand too.

We shouldn't be on our 2nd 3-3 draw 5 games into the season... a worrying sign really.

Yeah it doesn't but saying that despite our struggles at the start, there's no breakaway in the league like last year and we are stronger (having spent 200m)

I still think the performances will settle down and our games will stop being basketball matches. Still fancy Chelsea hovering close to the top
