Problem is in the eyes of most people, he won't go down as one. i believe if he keeps playing like this for a peroid of 5-10 years then he will be remembered as a great player though.

People have always been saying the same things à la "too defensive", "he isn't fancy enough", "doesn't score screamers" etc. about all the great defense specialists. Yet, when they aren't around anymore, they notice they had a legend playing for their team.

Makelele was slamed by lot of people when he was in RM. Only the players knew how important he was for them. Once he left, we all know what happend to that team.

Mikel has big role nowdays, sure far from being fancy and that shit, but he does his job very well. DMs dont play fancy, but that doesnt mean they are not important.
