Yep. And it'll be that way with Tammy as well. If (heaven forbid) Timo gets injured the way our team plays will be completely different. We now have 3 strikers with vastly different qualities and skill sets. Plus the ability to play with a false 9 in Havertz if necessary.

Hopefully we never line up with a false 9 ever again after Di Matteo, Conte and Sarri using it over the years here. Bar Guardiola, what manager has ever successfully incorporated one in his team? And even then, he had the greatest player of all time in the role in one of the greatest club sides of all time where they had such qualities in various areas of the pitch to make it work so effectively. I get Havertz has played there, I do, but I dont think it should be a viable option, I know you said if necessary but I think even with Eden in that position we lacked so much and even more so, even with Havertz we still will lack.

I wouldn't be worried about it with Havertz since he has played there a bunch. And unlike Hazard or Pulisic he isn't small and easy to bottle up. But I don't ever think we'll see it. There's no way all 3 of Timo, Giroud, and Tamy will all be missing at once.

Good debut. Surprised me a little with his link up play. Passing is actually not his forte but he has massively improved here the last few months. But it looks like he feels comfortable with the team and in our shirt. Blue is really his color, the kit suits him perfectly

‘I think that’s more of an incentive. ‘What the club demands of me is no less than I demand of myself.

‘The club has brought me to score goals and after 28 [league] goals for Leipzig I have not come to London to say a few is enough for me now.

‘I want to prove it there as well as at Leipzig.

‘For me, this feels less like pressure, but also from the club side more like anticipation that I can help celebrate successes.’

Werner also admits he will need to physically adjust to the Premier League.

‘The defenders in England are more robust than in the Bundesliga,’ said Werner.

‘It’s very, very, much more physical in the Premier League.

‘I have to develop myself and take on this physical aspect. English football is very fast.

‘That suits me because I am too have reasonably good speed.’

Chelsea’s summer-signed striker Timo Werner could hardly have enjoyed a better start to his time on the pitch with his new club when he found the net within five minutes at Brighton on Saturday, and he tells the official Chelsea website he has begun his new life away from the club and on the training pitch too.

The 24-year-old commenced training at Cobham at the end of July having agreed to join the Blues in June, making the switch from RB Leipzig in his native Germany. Despite the break between seasons (albeit a shortened one), his sharpness was there to see when he raced into the box and finished from Callum Hudson-Odoi’s knockdown on Saturday.

And the help from his team-mates stretches further than when they have the ball, he reveals after we ask him the question - how have you settled in at Chelsea?

‘Very good,’ Werner responds. ‘I know the way from my home to the training ground now, so that’s good!

‘That’s important, knowing your way around your new surroundings and we have also trained at the stadium so now I know my way to Stamford Bridge also.

‘My apartment is very nice, I feel happy there and also the city of London is brilliant. For me, London is one of the best cities in the world so I’m really happy. When you take a few days away, the weather was also very good! Yes, I’m very happy and settling in well.

‘When I first came to England it was hard to understand everyone’s English,’ he admits, ‘because I haven’t had to speak this language since my school days. It’s not been as hard as I expected though, everyone has helped me settle in. People have spoken very slowly so I can understand and right now I feel very happy. I can understand everything and communicate in English.’

Another German at Chelsea, Toni Rudiger, had spoken to Werner about the club around the time of his signing, and the striker confirms it is assisting him in settling now, having a friendly face like Rudiger around.

‘Having someone who can speak German always helps, and also Kova [Mateo Kovacic] can speak German too, so he’s helped me settle in. They have helped me around the training ground but also in explaining to me where is good to go for dinner, where is good to live, things like this.

‘I didn’t know London very well, I’d only visited a few times, so it was really important to have two guys like this helping me settle in.’

When it comes down to the serious business of preparing for the new season, it is of course Frank Lampard with whom Werner has been liaising closely.
‘The work with the manager recently has been really good,’ says the striker.

‘He’s been showing and explaining to the whole team, not just me, what we can do on the pitch and how to improve on last season.

‘He’s been great to work with and he’s been discussing his plans for the future, and how we want to battle with teams like Man City and Liverpool. I think Chelsea is a big club and with this team that we have, I think we can reach a new level. We have some very good players here and the manager is there to show us the way, and help us improve. We’ve worked a lot on tactical things, as well as our strength and fitness, to make sure we are ready for the start of the season.’
