Ivan Toney? Is this a serious suggestion or a sign of desperation?

I don't think the price tag is the problem with Werner and Havertz. Don't recall anyone using their price tag to beat them with, even though Havertz is our most expensive signing. We just need to improve them and get more consistency out of them.

Serious suggestion. Going into next season with no recognisable ST is going to end in disaster. I for one am not willing to take the chance on Havertz and Werner regaining form when neither of which have showed any signs they can handle the physicality and pace of the league consistently.

We aren't getting Kane or Haaland. I think we need to come back to earth and make that abundantly clear. Lukaku is a disaster waiting to happen. We all know it.  Then there are Bundelisga fans are warning us to avoid Andre Silva. We may as well go for someone with relatively low risk who could potentially have some resale value.

I get the part about needing a recognized striker but Ivan Toney? Low cost or not, what makes you believe/think that he can make the step up from League One or Championship to the top end of the Premier League? This season is only his first season in the Championship and before this, he was playing at the lower level.

Yes, it would be a disaster waiting to happen and another very expensive panic buy on the Kepa scale.

Utd fans couldn't wait to see the back of him. Tells you everything that fans of a very ordinary Utd team didn't think he was good enough for them.

If we can't sign a high quality striker then we should until we can get one and spend the money on other positions in the team instead. Pointless blowing tens of million on an average striker just because we need another striker.

There really isn’t even anyone to potentially panic buy at striker. The options are so thin that if we strike out on Haaland or Kane the drop off to anyone else is colossal. We’d then probably have to look at past it old guys from lesser leagues as a 1 season rental. An Edin Dzeko or something.

Or I guess we could go the no striker route and get some goal scoring midfielder as a last resort.

I agree that we need to be physically stronger in the forward areas but do we really need big physical men? Liverpool and Man City have shown that it's not compulsory at all. Sometimes I feel like we're still stuck with this old mindset that we need a big physical striker upfront to thrive, to play in a style that revolves around strikers like that. It's little wonder why the only strikers to have succeeded for us in the last 15 years or so are basically strikers in that mould - Drogba and Costa.

But the Dippers and City have players like: Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Rodri, Fernandinho, KDB (ok athletically he isn't the greatest) Kun (small but physical, even if a bit old/slow now). I mean we do not have many players in any of the CM/AM/CF areas that can match any of those players physically/athletically. Giroud can strength wise, but athletically he is done, Kante athletically matches them or beats them, but his strength/height is disadvantaged.

I am leaning towards the same. Better buy no one than panic buy someone too expensive. Replacing Ziyech with a winger who scores goals like Sancho instead might be a smarter move.

Anyway, I think we do need to buy a backup striker if we can not get a proper no.9 for the first XI.

a) We can either take a punt with someone young ike Vlahovic or Patson Daka (insanely pacey freak athlete and averages a goal every 72 mins)

or

b) go for someone more experienced and reasonably priced like Gerard Moreno who is a deadly finisher with decent all round game.

I don't disagree with that notion but are we talking in the context of getting goals or what? Because you first mentioned the attacking areas and you now listed a bunch of midfielders.

Even then, going into the season with just TWO strikers is so risky, especially when you consider both of them will likely start a lot - and likely together - as well as form, potential injuries, suspensions etc.

Only thing that makes me slightly at ease is that TT has made it abundantly clear with his team selections that he wants a striker. So surely the club will get him someone. Otherwise I’d be very worried about us having another mediocre season like this current one.

In general, I think we need two physical players to play in the side. At the moment, I would say the easiest place to slot those in are at CM and CF. Personally, I think our attacking play gets stymied a lot of the time as teams know they can low block us and get physical in the middle of the park and that will get them results.

As for CF, I kniw there is an arguement for a small 9/false 9 but I am not really a fan of that. I think it is fine when you're playing in the CL or against teams that want to play on the front foot but generally in the PL against 3/4 of the teams it isn't going to work unless you have some bruisers to do the dirty work or at least some CM's/AM's that can deal with that side (KdB for example.)

For me, getting two CM's to do that isn't really visible owing to the number of good players we have in CM, so for me it is a case of getting one in CM and one as a CF.

Anyone know if there's anyone from the Youth team who might be ready to step up?

with someone young like Vlahovic

I am a fan, especially if it is comparing him to Lukaku.

Same minutes in Seria A. Lukaku 23 goals in by far best team in the country and Vlahovic 21 goals in team that almost fight for relegation.

Same height but Vlahovic almost 7 years younger and much cheaper. So dont know why would anyone choose Lukaku over Vlahovic?

they are very different players tho. With  Lukaku you know what you are getting. lukaku is way faster  than Vlahovic and is a machine on the counter attack. If you are looking for a counter attacking striker he is probably the best in the world. My only gripe with Lukaku is that he never really developed into that Drogba mould. Strikers who can dominate tight sapces witht heir body and create chances for others or score from headers whilst heavily marked. Those players win you tight matches. Lukaku never got to that level due to his lack of close control. He is less of a battering ram or siege tower but more of a war elephant most effective in open field and space to charge into. Whilst he can look spectacular in these specific situations, those rarely happen in big cup finals (which is maybe partly why he has never won a single cup).

Vlahovic is more of a hustler. I think with their height and goal records any similarities end. Vlahovic already has a better first touch and close control. He has not quite the same power but is no slouch either. I have only a few games of him and he has not been exactly clinical in those but he did create a lot of chances for himsel and for his teammates. I can definitely see him evolve into a complete modern forward if he polishes his technique further and gets even more ruthless. If he was a finishes product already, he would definitely fit us better esp vs deep defences.

Not really convinced Lukaku would be a good buy anyway. He would probably help us finish off the smaller sides but he so often has been walled by players with better game intelligence i can see him being a bust in the big games again. Also at 28 he is hardly getting any younger and will cost a ton. Vlahovic on the other hand will need serious game time to develop here and not sure we can give him that esp with TT's fondness for werner.

Serie A has produced so many one season wonders lately that a bit of caution is in order with Vlahovic i guess.

Harry Class A Kane is never coming to us.

I don't think he would out of respect to the hatred between the 2 clubs.

Just this:

I think it would be incredibly unwise to go into next season without a recgonisable ST

Need more reliable sources than this before i believe Brentford will sell for £30m.

Tbh, Lukaku has got into double figures for assists this season too. Think he is joint top or second in that regards. Lukaku may be older, but he would be a much more safer ber than Vlahovic. I doubt we get him anyway tbh.

Lukaku all day long, we lack physicality, we lack a fucking bulldozer and have done since Drogba. Costa had a bit of Drogba and Lukaku in him, Nasty fucker with with a ram raid mentality.

Haaland isn't happening, Kane to Manchester and Lukaku we need to get him.
