Am sure this has been said before and Marina hasn't been faultless when it comes to transfer but it is "strange" that people like to criticize her whenever we buy crap players but people rarely say anything good things when we actually buy good/quality players.

Or when we get ridiculously good fees for player sales

I mean to this day i dont know how Marina or Woodward in United managed to keep their jobs when both teams spend shitload and we are in transitional period since 2010s.

Because their job has very little to do with footballing other than budget and contract.

Who was the last good player we signed that actually improved our team? Kante 3-4 years ago?

We signed a lot of players since then and most of them are crap. Marina is terrible.

(Ziyech doesn’t count until we see him play in a Chelsea shirt and doesn’t turnout a dud)

Okay, doom monger.

If she's bad or terrible, then why is she still in the job? If anyone should be blamed for the poor transfers we've made over the year, it should be Roman. He, after all, was the one who put the likes of Marina in charge of transfers and whatever structure that's in place at the club right.

You are just being absolutely pathetic now with the name calling.

I’m not saying Roman isn’t at fault for the mess we are in because he is, but Marina is not doing a good job, including extending contracts of deadwood.

She has done more things bad than good in terms of signing players and extending contracts. And Roman, isn’t cover himself with glory letting this happen near constantly.

Ziyech is the best player in the Erediviisie. To get him at the price we did was fantastic. He is a quality player and also has lit up the Champions League also.

Your last sentence, is like saying if we bought Messi it does not count as we have not seen him in a Chelsea shirt.

It counts, because we got him for a bargain fee in this market before the pandemic and his stats are brilliant and on the signs of it looks really good business.

I have to agree with mana in this case. I have question mark on how ziyech will fare in epl.

If Marina got Messi of today, I would be very disappointed.

He is a good buy in that sense, but so was Shevchenco. Will he fit to our system and can he cope with the intensity of the PL?

You don’t just sign players based on their name and stats alone. Will he continue to grow and shine in Chelsea?

However, I’ll give Marina credit here, she got him on a good price that shocked me.

Kovacic...I don’t know. It all depends on what system/players he has around him. He hasn’t constantly “shined” or have a lot of menacing performances. For him, it’s a question mark but he’s not in the crap pile that’s for sure.

Pulisic is average for me at the moment though. I can think of 3 matches that he has been superb.

Also Luiz and Alonso didn’t win the league for us (in that sense). That’s like saying Moses is a fantastic player as well.

I think this idea that Marina is the decision maker on who we buy and sell has been beaten to death in recent times.

But the part about the last good player we purchased is interesting. The biggest issue for me which greys this area is the obvious shift in style/culture that the club decided to take when they appointed Sarri after 6 - 7 years continuously of Di Matteo, Benitez, Mourinho and then Conte.

There are still a large group of players who were part of the previous team which were set up and drilled as a much more pragmatic, counter attacking, defensive minded team. Take the defence for example, besides the academy players, the rest of the defence across the back line were purchased by the club pre-Sarri and therefore brought for specific attributes that may not be in keeping with what we are trying to evolve now which is a more open, flowing, front foot style. Even of the academy players, Christensen enjoyed his best spell at the club under the management of Conte.

There is still a huge amount of players at the club that were pre-Sarri and such a shift isn't just going to take a season or two. To compound what would already be a difficult short term task, we've had a transfer ban (although I think the introduction en masse of academy players has probably helped to accelerate to a degree what we're trying to aim towards), our best attacking player has left and now this Covid-19 situation which no one knows how this will impact football and especially the transfer market over the next couple of years.

Are Jorginho, Kovacic and Pulisic the right type of signings for what we are trying to do. In my opinion they are, but there is a lot more evolution and development required of this team before we can fully judge. Somebody like Jorginho may not stay to see that through, and his transfer then will always be debated because there is no doubt in my mind that he has helped with the style shift that the club is trying to achieve but in an era of transition his transfer may not be viewed as a success. I think more patience is needed with some of our most recent signings before they can be truly judged. Hopefully the addition of Ziyech and a couple more this summer will help continue the squad's development.

I think this is the key comment in all you have said.

If what you believe is true then Marina's job might indeed have come under pressure. Instead she clearly enjoys Roman's confidence and Frank speaks convincingly about enjoying a good relationship with her. I ask you to consider if this might mean that the people who actually know the facts know something you don't?

Far from being sacked, Marina has been promoted more than once. Just how stupid would everyone involved in those decisions need to be to miss the gross incompetence you think Marina is guilty of? The facts do not support your opinion. I really think you should think again about this.

Well one way would be that because she keeps finances in check and that could be more important to Roman these days than being successful. Or maybe she is just a pony that Roman uses in public while he decides who to come or go etc.

There is also a difference between scouting and selecting players/transfers. There must be someone that orders scouts who to scout or watch an eye. Or they simply idenfitfy a list of players (lets say Ziyech, Havertz, Sancho) and it again falls on Marina or whoever else is in charge to pick one, negotiate, convince them, see if they fit the budget etc. Scott has less importance than director when it comes to squad building, clearly.

All Im saying is that Marina is officialy our director of football, meanwhile Pool for example has Michael Edwards. It doesnt matter if Marina actualy handles this or that, if the sporting model we have is bad, she is responsible. Thats why it would be nice to have someone with actual knowledge.

Jorginho and Kovacic are both signings that have virtually transformed a conservative team into a progressive one. We know can compete in midfield against some of elite in Europe playing progressive football.

• Chelsea want an attacking player who can play a variety of positions

•Chilwell likely to join for £40-50m, and given his priority will be a "marquee"

• Werner an option but not certain

• Looked at Benrahma

• Sancho too expensive at £140m

Of course if marina signed messi today, it made no sense. The guy is 32, that is the problem. If Messi is 27, and we can get him, you are just crazy if one moment we think we should not get him due to systrm fit.

Kovacic has been our best midfielder this season without question. 40m was a bargain for kova.

For a wb, moses is very2 good.

Simon Johnson Q&A Key Points:

Ignore talk of 'warchests', there is no set budget.

At least two big signings, left back and an attacking player are priority.

Can only afford a 'big' striker OR a 'big' wide player, not both

Before Covid-19 a 'domineering' CB was wanted but now is not the focus. (Zouma possibly would have been sold, Tomori may have gone on loan)

Chilwell is the number one target for this window. (and is one of these two 'marquee' signings)

Confident his price will end up around £40-50m.

Lampard wants the left flank to attack as well as the right flank does and Chilwell will help them to do this.

Werner, Havertz and Sancho are all 'very difficult' for Chelsea to sign due to price and competition

'Don't get too excited' (about Werner), completely up to Liverpool.

Club not really thinking about Sancho, price is a major stumbling block.

No chance of Coutinho permanent deal, loan is possible but wages are massive block to this.

No interest in Jimenez.

Napoli hard to negotiate with, Koulibaly too expensive.

Club likes Rice but is expensive, priority is other positions.

Mertens wanted Napoli record, Cavani never a realistic option for us and he only wanted Atletico

Osimhen not a priority

Auba doesn't fit Lampard's idea of a striker (but would be good short term)

No interest in Grealish.

Hard for Jorginho to be sold as Juve can't afford Chelsea's valuation (£60m+) and can't offer us anyone decent to sweeten the deal.

No confirmed interest in Benrahma and his price tag is too high
