Captain Ahmed 528
Joe Cole makes Tampa Bay Rowdies debut after leaving Coventry City Quote One-time Chelsea favourite has moved to Florida after a spell in League One Former Coventry City midfielder Joe Cole made his debut for North American Soccer League side Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday night. After signing last week, the 34-year-old went straight into the starting line-up for Rowdies 1-1 draw with Rayo OKC in front of a 6,702 crowd at Al Lang Stadium. The away side took the lead in the 54th minute after a mix-up between keeper Matt Pickens and defender Tamika Mkandawire for Michel to tap in.Rowdies soon pulled level through an own goal and Cole thought he had contributed to the winning goal with two minutes to play as his precise free-kick was turned in by Tommy Heinemann. However, the celebrations were short-lived with the referee judging he had not restarted play and the Rowdies had to settle for the point. Cole was used sparingly by Tony Mowbray at Sky Blues after undergoing his own mini pre-season and he hopes to be still able to contribute to the NASL season. He added: "It's a difficult one as I've had a long hard season at Coventry so I could have waited until the fall season and started afresh - as you're carrying a few nicks and knocks - but I think it's important I get going. There's a break soon and you'll probably see the best of me in the Fall Season."He also revealed ex-Sky Blues team-mate Andy Rose, who moved over from MLS side Seattle Sounders, played a role in persuading him to make the move.He added: "Andy knows some of the guys in the dressing room. He was telling me I made the right choice." coventrytelegraph.net

manpe 10,626
Was easily one of my favourite players. At that time it didn't feel out of place for me to place him in the same bracket with Lamps and JT, felt like a true blue. A shame he got so much stick in his later years with us. Sure he was past it and laden with injuries iirc, but always a model pro who loved the club and gave everything. Even after being long gone, he still gave us Hazard! Was one of the reasons I grew up appreciating Chelsea, because of players like him (and Duff, Robben, Lamps, JT, Drogba, Gudjohnsen). Was fun to watch that amazing team and ultimately grew loyal to the club (I'm still here aren't I ) . Still remember that amazing goal he scored in that title-winning game against United in 2006. It was so good I remember it like it was yesterday. Usually my memory is bad with stuff in so distant past, but this was special and one of my brightest memories from that era. Take a bow son! LEGEND!
bigbluewillie 1,512
Still think he could do a job for us this season, better than the two muppets willian and pedro
BlueLyon 9,359
Joe Cole....the happy days. He had some of that joga bonito about him and was always entertaining to watch. Shame he left quite soon, at his peak he was realy amazing player, probably doesnt get enough credit, but maybe thats because he didnt spend more years here and joined fooking liverpool. Anyway great lad, brought many great moments to Chelsea.

For a lot of people that generation is just one of many like Desailly and Zola before, but for younger ones its probably why they follow this club and while I like Hazard, Costa, Luiz,...that 2005 generation was just something else. Even if we created balon dor team in 2020, it wouldnt feel that great as it was back in 2005. I guess thats nostalgia, being kid and growing up, watching these players. I remember always pretending to be Lamps when we played in the school... When you are older, you know more about football than ever, you understand things more, but you just dont have that carefree feeling you had as a kid watching matches...or maybe thats just me haha
Strike 6,170
His two title-winning goals vs United stick out (2006 and 2010 when he backheeled a Malouda cross at OT) Time does fly. Great player and great character at the club

Tbh that would have possibly made it worse. He was spent and past it, there was not much he could offer us anymore unfortunately. Injuries had him done. He left at the right time (but Liverpool, yuck)... If I can forgive Lamps going to City, I can forgive Joe for thinking Liverpool is some safe haven for English players. 1 hour ago, BlueLyon said: Me too man. I would get hyped just seeing Lamps and Drogba play knowing they can produce something special at any time, I admired their playing styles. Out of our current crop the only player that comes close to giving that hyped up feeling is Hazard.
