Antonio Rudiger

Luiz, Christensen, Azpi, Cahill and Rudiger would be the best CB core in the league, add Alonso in there too and it's even better. Rudiger is a Zouma that can pass essentially, so I wouldn't mind the signing too much. Looks like Conte really wants him.

Him, Bakayoko and Lukaku. 90% sure that these deals are done, and only a matter of when they announce it.

Hopefully the Sandro deal gets sorted out as well on Monday. As good as Alonso is, Alonso-Cahill isn't going to cut the mustard against the big teams in the CL.

Rudiger himself looks baffled that this has happened. Ask him 'Why do you think Chelsea were after you?' and no doubt, the most likely answer would be 'I don't know' followed by a nervous smile.

you do realize that since those deals football economics has changed drastically right?

Gaz & Dave were signed in 2012. The transfer fee in each case was reported to be £7m.

In 2012 CFC turnover was £227.3m. In 2016 it was £329.1m. That is roughly a 45% increase.

Our turnover will be higher again in 2017. Let's be aggressively ambitious and estimate it at £400m. Roughly speaking that would represent a 76% increase over the 2012 figure.

If we add together the two fees paid for Gaz & Dave, then inflate that figure by 76% it comes to much less than £25m. Football finances have changed drastically over the past 5 years, but not as drastically as transfer fees.

To be fair you said 'economics', not 'finances' and that is a different thing but I suggest that economics has gone right out of the window and madness has set in.

possible hijack by mancity

Nope, it's done already. Everything agreed in principle, player just needs to have a medical and sign the contract.

A Roma supporter told me their club needed €30M income by the end of June to comply with FFP, so that's where the Rüdiger sale comes in and that's why the deal was agreed out of the blue in less than 24 hours. It all happened because their sale of Kostas Manolas to Zenit fell through at the last minute and they needed to complete another deal fast. If (or rather when) the sale to Chelsea goes through, Roma will get the transfer fee income included in their financial books for year 16/17 because it was already agreed before the end of last month and they're in clear waters with UEFA.

However if a club like Man City now hijacked the deal and records show that the transfer was only agreed in July, Roma would be fucked with FFP sanctions because the income would appear on their books for 17/18 and for last year they'd be €30M short of complying with the rules. Any reports linking the player to Man City are just tabloids writing shit and trying desperately to sell papers.

They had to sell two players and they did.

Why didn't we just go early to buy radja?

Before they sold Salah and rudgier.

And as another caveat to what you are saying here, Cahill told Bolton he wasn't re-signing so they had no leverage. Its rare that a club lets a players contract run down to the final months nowadays.
