Emerson who is the most ordinary of players might very well be more reliable. Especially in games like these were defending a lead is the priority. in 80% of games Alonso does nothing offensively but passing the ball back to Hazard every time he gets it and maybe put in a mediocre cross once in a while. I am 100% Emerson can do that too but he will not get found out on the break and if so he has the pace to recover.

Yeah Sarri says Chelsea's Marcos Alonso could be one of the best left-backs in the world last month ?! Funk i wouldn't like to see a bang average 1 then ,grrrr Alonso grrrr , time for Palmieri to be given the chance to take over the slot imho , maybe a good dropping is what he needs, buck up his ideas!

Junior Firpo FTW

I go into basically all the other LB options too, Telles now has a 75m euro release clause, as he just signed a new contract, same for Jose Gaya, who now has a 100m euro release clause after new contract signed. This coming summer is last year Alex Sandro is of an age worth buying, but even now he is maybe not worth the £70m plus Juve will demand as we would only get a year and a half of sub 30yo play out of him and fullbacks age badly.

Kovacic may provide better defensive cover but even when he was playing in the first half, United still found space to attack down our left because Alonso went AWOL defensively. You can point the finger at the LCM for the lack of defensive cover but if the LB doesn't have any defensive awareness (worse if he doesn't have any pace!), then we're gonna be in trouble most of the time because let's not forget, Kovacic isn't there just to provide defensive cover, he's also there to link up play in the final third. Can't expect him to be charging up and down the field when he's not a box-to-box midfielder. One tactical option Sarri could maybe consider is shift Kante to the left side of the midfield but then again, not sure if that would work.

Alonso is a cross Chelsea has to carry. We have to find players to accommodate his defensive weaknesses instead of trying to improve other areas. Even Hazard had to track back to commit a tactical foul on Rashford, because Alonso was caught out of position again. Every big team targets his wing, Mancity kept Mahrez and Bernado silva on that wing and scored two goals and created many, Arsenal kept Mykiterian and Aubameyang on that wing and created even more, Defensive Mourinho kept a quick Rashford on his wing and created all ManUnited chances from Alonso's side. He scores 1 goal every 8 games to make his contribution look so huge, how he has managed to con his way to become one of our key players baffles my mind constantly.

The way fans turn on players is actually scary. WOW.

To be fair a lot of people have been skeptical of Alonso, he always shuts up people with a winner something which has failed to do of late thus people are focusing on his obvious flaws again.

It's the speed of from hero to zero lol

No speed at all.

We called this before a game was kicked off, as soon as Sarri was announced.

The teams weaknesses were hardly state secrets.

Strikers were shit, I mean SHIT are shit, will be shit

RW is shit, as Pedro is not an everyday player at this point in his career (he never really was, as he is very slight of build and takes a beating) and Willian is a joke, a £65m loss of a great sale joke

LB is shit, Alonso clearly is not a back 4 acceptable level fullback

Luiz is shit, for all his passing, he makes mental errors at far too great a rate, he always has

All of that remains

Luiz just looks a little better because AC has fallen down a large notch, Cahill is a fossil, and Ampadu is hurt.

Add to that Azpi's downturn in play and now Kante's struggles to adapt

Hazard, Rudiger, Kepa, Jorginho, Kovavcic, and occasionally Barkley (lately has come on really well) and Pedro (earlier, now is hurt) are carrying the team

4 outfield regulars

a GK

and 2 part-timers

Azpi and Kante have been oki, nothing more usually, other than the occasional really good game, NOTHING like they have been for last 3,4 years

the rest have been poor or basically non existent in any meaningful impact OR (big issue here) not played (RLC, Amps and especially CHO)

Its amazing we do not have a loss yet, and all credit to Sarri on that, BUT the long term cost of shit rotation, probable lack of upgrades in January (its HARD to do business then and our board is SHIT usually even in the summer windows) and then no youngsters getting more than a whiff will burn us bad, especially if injuries occur
