Conte seems mad very mad in that press conference.

I remember it was like that after the Arsenal loss last season.

Can we see a repeat of some new ingenuity and massive turnaround?

I don't think so but let's see and watch.

I'm getting the feeling that Conte doesn't have a Plan B in case of injuries and this is part of the reason why he's getting found out.

He's never been known as a tactical mastermind like a Mourinho or a Pep, it's always been work hard & be disciplined on the pitch.

Sometimes you need to think outside the box to get a result...as soon as I saw the lineup for the Palace match, I knew they were going to get at least 1 point out of the game.

We'll be beaten again next week by Watford.

I wouldn’t say Conte is getting found out or that he is not a tactical mastermind as you put it. The players were embarrassing today in all reality, Palace are 20th, they obviously thought it would be easy and it was anything but and even then the application from guys like Hazard, Willian, Batshuayi, Alonso, Moses in attacking situations was poor. Conte managed to take a team who looked disorganised and flat under Mourinho and Hiddink in a 4231 and also looked out of shape in a 433/4141 he used against Arsenal and Liverpool to Premier League champions in his first season using a 343 formation, which worked very well. Also if last season didn’t go as well as it did there would be no problems, like with players form, managers go through periods where they get lots of wins and runs where they get loses and draws. It is to be expected.

I think he showed with the way he set the team up against Atletico as well he is a very good tactician who can be adaptable and also against West Brom last season where they played with what looked like a back 6, Antonio changed it up and it worked but I don’t think Pep Guardiola or Jose Mourinho would be happy about the options as well as the profile of the players he has as back ups to the likes Ngolo Kante (Danny Drinkwater if he ever gets fit), Alvaro Morata (Michy Batshuayi) and Marcus Alonso (Kenedy). Like somebody said up there or maybe it was in another thread, we are two or three injuries away from looking an average team/squad and right now Morata and Kante, two of our most important players are out and if we lose Alonso then god knows what will happen as he is the only natural left sided defender/wing back in the squad because Kenedy is more of a forward (Azpi is better as a wide CB than as a wing back for me despite his performance today).

We are on a bit of a shit run, 2 defeats, 2 poor performances and another tough PL game is coming up against Watford after the CL game but if we come out of this next week with two wins everybody will be happy.

It's hard to see a massive turnaround as he doesn't have any other options on the bench.

Apart from putting Luiz in midfield and Christensen at CB, I don't see massive changes.

haven't watched the game yet (recorded), and not looking forward to it, but it was a bad starting XI IMO. One that gives a chance to the terrible side that Palace certainly is.

Yeah, why did he not put Luiz in midfield considering the abundance of defenders and nothing else in the squad?

He needs to drop a few individuals fast. Some players have been able to coast & kept their places due to results being positive but they no longer are.

He's needs to stop being the architect of his own downfall

Conte is not a tactical genius and definetely not the kind of material is worth more than 2 or 3 seasons at the same club. I just hope he can produce a good UCL run this season.

Nothing will happen this season. The only thing CFC have right now are some good centre backs, a good GK, one top winger, one very good striker and a small centre midfielder who keeps our heads above water.

Just delete your dvr recording, you will get angry the whole game.

IMO the starting 11 is fine. We all want Rudiger and Christensen to play over Cahill but we all know it is not happening soon.

I think losing Kante really destabilize our midfield and without Morata we are really lacking in cutting edge especially because of how poor michy performance was.

Heh sound advice, but too late now... :) It was really awful and palace did deserve the points tbf.

Partially disagree... United play with 10 men all the time with Lukaku strolling about too, but yeah Michy is unplayable (in a bad way :(). For me the midfield did not show: both Baka and Fabregas were just way too slow and immobile, which is indeed a stark contrast from what Kante does. Baka is really scaring me... even when he has a decent game, he is just too defensive and unskilled on the ball. It is just very difficult to play when you lose the midfield like we did today/yesterday. Defenders will take the blame as usual, but they were exposed all game, esp first half.

Thought Willian had a normal game - pretty much what he normally does, which is not much. :(

This team is mid table material... sorry to say it.

BTW, still think Luiz should've played in the middle and should always play in the middle until Drinkwater and/or Kante are back.

If things carry on no doubt end up the way always do...he'll get sacked. Temporary manager steps in..results still meh mostly. Summer...new manager.

He comes in and have a good season. Maybe win the league but it's clear need new players to strengthen areas.

Obviously that doesn't happen and results start being iffy..crisis meeting. Things carry on..sack and repeat.

I still don't get why he doesn't play our two best defenders every game. Luiz and Cahill are woeful this season and should be benched for the next few games. Rudiger and Christensen didn't make any noteworthy mistakes so far, but somehow they find themselves on the bench more often than not. Not to mention that they aren't conceding unnecessary red cards.
Conte has to sort our CB problems out as fast as possible.

After a disappointing transfer window, you can see how the club is struggling when 2 players are injured. Last season we were so lucky for not having long term injuries and also playing only in PL and FA, but this season is all different and the board didn't do anything to help Conte.
But what I see as his big mistake is that we have Christensen and Rudiger, playing really solid when they are on the pitch, but mostly staying on the bench for the likes of Luiz and Cahill who are making disappointing performances. Also, I can't figure how is possible Willian to start a game, even the young boy with the angry instagram story will do better than him. It's really hard for him with this injuries and missing players, but I hope he at least makes the right decisions more often and plays the right players on the pitch.

Urgh, such belittlement of our season last year. People forget this time last year we were underdogs, from a poor finish the season before to an average transfer window. Can we say 2016 window was any better than this year? We bought a CM, FB and striker.

Luiz was hailed a stroke of genius lmao. As for Willian, everyone's favourite fall guy. The Musonda wank-a-thon among Chelsea fans this season is beyond cringe. Same fans probably wanted to keep Tammy Abraham this season.

In 2016 window we were upgrading a team which was going to face only 1 competition the whole season, this season is different as the team plays in CL too and a rotation between the players is a must.

Can't really understand the rest of your post, but I'm not a big fan of Musonda, but when players perform like Willian, I think someone else deserve a chance also.
And I'm really against keeping Abraham in the team right now, eventhough I'd prefer him over Bats at the moment, the boy needs to play week in and week out and this can't happen at Chelsea.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/oct/15/chelsea-face-difficult-season-fighting-four-fronts-antonio-conte

“We mustn’t be happy,” Conte said. “This season will be very difficult for us. For this reason we have to put 150% in; 100% won’t be enough. I have players with a great will to work and fight. For sure we have to find the strength to overcome this moment. Everyone can see our situation.

“I think every season is different. Last season is the past. Now it is another squad, different players and for this reason if we compare last season we didn’t play Europa League or Champions League. This season we are facing four competitions and we are having a few problems doing this. When you have a few injuries, you are in trouble.”

“You know very well the potential of the other teams but it is important for us to look at ourselves,” he said. “This season will be difficult but also we have to understand we have to try to build something important for the future, to give the opportunity to the new players to have more experience in this league, to give the opportunity to young players to show they deserve to stay and play for Chelsea. We must have patience this season to understand it won’t be easy.”

I cant blame Conte for the performances, the players are as guailty as management.

BUT Conte has been absolutely poor in picking players.

We have many injuries and red cards, so there are not many options to pick sometimes, but even when everyone was fit, he decided to play Cesc. The guy offers absolutely nothing except for long passes. Even his so called leadership and experience are nowhere to be seen when we need to step up.

He is perfect as backup and yet this year he comes back as starter.

Definately on Conte this one. We dont have other deeplying playmaker, but we have Bakayoko and Kante and we should play 3:4:3 until we buy new playmaker, better this than 3:5:2 with Cesc and having midfield exposed.

Then there is Cahill. To extent Luiz aswell. Christensen has been amazing, yet Conte picks proven players who dont perform well. Sure not easy to bench captain, but hell if these guys are given to play even when they play shit for weeks, they wont improve and train harder because they have spot in 11 regardless. Complacency comes in place. And what message it gives to youngsters?

And finaly Willian. He has been absolutely awful this season, seriously cant remember player that was so shit for so many games. Sorry Willy, but its time to stop. Dribbles in wrong direction, missplaces passes, predictable crosses and shots...and hell, no drive to improve and work harder either.

Yet Conte picks him for nearly every game.

These three are simply down on Conte.

Time to show some balls and dunno, play Musonda if necessary.

As for Bats, no words either, but we simply dont have another striker apart from injured Morata, its understandable he plays now.

Bottom line it shows clearly once again how big of a fuckup summer was. We brought 7 new players, sold twice more, but first 11 is no better than last year. Morata and Baka instead of Matic and Costa is a downgrade, but they are young. We have other problems like replacing Cesc, backup striker, new wingbacks, and quality RW.

No way next summer we adress all those issues.

We cannot handle pressing. I complained about this so much last season, too many players who dont know what to do when being under pressure.

Before only top teams were pressing us and we suffered against them last season but now, even small teams like crystal palace are pressing us, not allowing us to pass out of the back and we cant cope. I blame this on the board for buying average joes year in year out and on Conte for not figuring out what to do about this. Worst of all Hazard and morata cant seem to get a game together and we keep fielding willian for whatever reason.
