Tomo 21,143
I remember April last year when Bertrand got his run off games in Cole's absence and that's when people started to say he won't be Cole's long term successor.Ferreira hardly ever had a terrible game for us yet that didn't stop people pining for a new RB for pretty much his whole time here.I don't agree with the loan because he is a very good squad player but this is yet another case off a players reputation being enchanced by not playing.
The only place to be 11,313
You can't be further from the truth even if you tried, just last month the decision to bench him for dave was met by widespread criticism from fans (not neccessarily on talkchelsea) and the media in general who still think it's 2006. I can only imagine if it was berttrand that took his place instead. in regards to walcott, many still view him as that all pace and no brain player who pops up with goals now and then. I was referring to general opinion that's not exclusive to this siteYou must know different fans to me because Ashley Cole's decline has been noticeable to most people who follow this club for a while now. It's why there's such a groundswell of support for the signing of Shaw. What some consider negative is what others like me see as being realistic, blunt, honest and unbiased and that's what makes life intersting. we can't all be " positive and lovey dovey" otherwise football discussions on chelsea forums in general would generally just go along the lines ofI'm sure you do see yourself as those things, but the very fact that you think you're unburdened by bias is rather hilarious. Not to burst your little bubble but we all have ingrained biases, and I also think that every member here posts honestly. It's interesting that what you view as 'realistic' is what others view as negative. 5354 204
Just saw the MOTD highlightshe played a important part in preventing west ham goal in 1st halfbut 2nd half got tricked or skinned by downing to send a cross in for the first goal. i wont say it is his fault, but he got tricked a little bit far to easily though. the left midfield didnt help him out. was it abonlahor? or delpth?however the central defense could had do better to mark nolan. not sure what baker was doing by leaving nolan free. delth was ball watching
BlueLion. 21,484
I watched the extended highlights on Football First just to watch Berty's performance. Very average. He does some excellent work, only to undo it. The way Downing skipped past him was embarrassing. And people say he's better than Shaw? Still not convinced. I think Villa is about his level, in truth. Villa are a great club with a wonderful history, but they are building for the future and they have an onus on players of around Ryan's age. He'll get good positional security at Villa and it might enhance his overall game by playing regularly. Good player, just not quite Chelsea first-choice LB standard in my honest opinion. That's why I hope we sell him to Villa or any other mid-table team at the end of the season. He really is capable of having a very good career and even being a regular with the NT if he keeps playing regularly.
BloodIsBlue 291
He's perfect for Villa. The way they play he'll be a key player.I can see why some of you feel letting him go would be best for him, its probably true. Shaw will come here eventually maybe not this year but eventually he will be a Chelsea player. The question is do we use Ryan or PVA to fill in for that season or two?
The only place to be 11,313
Played for about 70 minutes in the Newcastle game and was probably one of their worst players, although that might be harsh as no-one was any good in the match.
Eidur the Spider 4,515
Lovely little ball through for Villa that eventually led to an own goal. Well in, Ryan! He learned that at the Bridge 4-1 not even half time yet!

Jase 43,477
Looks like Bertrand has had enough and I don't blame him..http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ryan-bertrand-would-consider-permanent-6876145“It’s flattering to hear what Jose Mourinho said but there’s no more waiting around for me in terms of wanting to be a Chelsea player,” said Bertrand.“Come the summer I need to be the No.1 left-back, wherever that will be.“I have ambitions but I have to be realistic as well. I will sit down and consider all my options.“Staying here isn’t something I would rule out. I’ve had years of playing but since I was 17 I have been on loan, basically.‘‘I’ve spent the past few years at Chelsea, in and out of the team, and the experience I’ve gained from that is I’m happy just playing. That’s what it comes down to in football.“If you’re getting the respect from your peers that you deserve, that means a lot.”

CHOULO19 24,332
The thing is, he's a really decent LB. I'd take him in a heart beat over the likes of Gibbs and Flanagan. But we're just looking for better than that. I really like Ryan, and I think making a permanent move to Villa, or even replacing Shaw at Southampton, would be good for him.

Specially if pochetino stays. Bertrand is good defensively but offers very little up ahead. Soton like their fullbacks getting forward and helping. Dont think he fits the bill for them
