César Azpilicueta

The only reason I can think of for subbing Cesar off is sparing him being on the pitch with that embarrassing lot lol

Had Mourinho been playing the FBs in their positions properly, we wouldn't even have to waste a sub on taking one FB off for an attacking player.

Azpilicueta does not compare the likes of Alba, Alaba, Dani Alves etc. going forward and on the ball, but no one compares to him defensively, whether high up the pitch or in deep positions. I thought he was excellent today. He also makes the job of the CB next to him so much easier, just look at Gary's form.

Azpi on the right is actually quite offensively impressive, although he is no prime Ivanovic.

Mehh, his technique doesn't compare those mentioned and others like a Kolarov, Lahm, Maxwell etc. Those players are almost wide midfielders in their positioning, comfort on the ball, decision-making and technique. Ivanovic at any point of his career doesn't compare to those players either, although his power was a big asset for him. He was a CB afterall, and never a ball-playing CB

Azpilicueta is a lot more old fashioned. A 90s and early 00s fullback. Of course he's better offensively on the right, with his natural right foot. Even Cole was always decent technically, but he was very astute in his positioning and quite clever in his decision-making (and had great pace and a good first touch).

By far the best defender in the club. One of the best defenders in the world when it comes to actual defending. Always on front foot, he intercepts every bit of misplaced pass, he is ready to start the attacks. He somehow doesn't belong to this team because he's one man army pressing machine.

When he nails that right side spot we can have the best right-back in Europe. I think offensively he's decent enough to contribute.
