Luiz is a great player but anywhere near 40 million and "if he wants to leave, sell him. Like Fernando said, I don't want any players here who want to leave. But if he wants to stay then don't sell him at all.

The problem with selling him to Barca is we might start a trend where they can cherry pick our best talents in the future like Arsenal, we should stick to being a non selling club, United have done it well over the years

Its annoying that clueless people like you believe Luiz want to leave based on one single source: "Mundo Deportivo".

Instead of calling me clueless read what I wrote careful first. I said "if he wants to leave." And for your information, I don't believe in none of those sources. None of us know how he really feels about a transfer.

No need to get personal.

agreed.

All players aim to get the best deal they can get and that's why they pay an agent to begin with. David may like playing for Chelsea, and I honestly think he does, but if he is being offered a key player position at Barca with matching wages, and he is unable to get that here, say Mourinho tells him he will be rotated, then he is gone and I would not blame him. There are just too many unknowns.

However, right now he is a chelsea player. Just watched him live and it's funny how his technique oozes from him. His first touch, his passing, are of special players. People are just not used to seeing a player with that much ball control playing defense. Don't think he was 100% since he was wearing those muscle tape though.

Decent read for sure and some very interesting stats but also some ridiculous ones. Luiz's dominance in interceptions is no surprise and is, IMO, his main strength but it's nice to see the statistical evidence back up what we can see. Some of the other statistics are baffling to use. "Chances created" for example are based entirely on Luiz taking more shots especially free kicks from dangerous areas, something other no other CB really does. Yes, Luiz creates more chances, but he also took more shots than all the other CBs on the list combined and with a very poor success rate. (2 goals on 56 shots means you are taking far too many shots. Cahill, for example, had the same number of goals on 16 shots.) Like this previous omission the article conveniently ignores the biggest negative aspect of Luiz's game IMO which is that he tries to do too much offensively and is not efficient enough to justify it. Luiz had an 81% passing rate, easily the lowest on the list and a number that is very poor for a central defender. Kompany for example, had an 89% passing rate. Most of that difference comes from Luiz terrible percentage on long balls (55%, Kompany's for example was 73%)) which re-enforces those of us who believe that Luiz's game is much better when he keeps it simple and sticks as being a very good central defender instead of trying to run the attack. (Bad percentage shooter, bad percentage passer means a lot of turnovers for every positive result, way more than I would consider a good trade-off.)

Nice and very objective post.

Imo, Luiz yet has to improve in many areas of his game and at this moment he does not deserve to be put amongst the best central defenders.

That depends... On requirements. For a team like Barcelona for example David would have to be considered top5 and I reckon #1. Many very solid defenders would never work in a high defense line setup for example.

David was also a lot better than thiago silva in the conf cup against strong sides.

Chelsea defender David Luiz has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona, but the centre-back who is away on international duty with Brazil ahead of this week's friendly with Switzerland is refusing to talk about any possible switch to the Camp Nou.

I will only talk about the national team because this is all I can think about when I come here, that's how I think. It was like this in Brazil during the Confederations Cup, and it will be like this here. You (press) can try everything but won't get anything from here.
