ZAPHOD2319 2,018
In this article from The Guardian it sounds like the British government are taking over the sale? However the government is keen to target Abramovich rather than Chelsea, which it views as a “significant cultural asset”, and it will consider an application for a new licence that would permit a sale. Chris Philp, the digital and technology minister, said on Friday that Abramovich would be prevented from selling the club but potential buyers could approach the government with takeover proposals as long as the Russian would not benefit from the deal. The viability of potential buyers is being discussed in political circles. Boehly and Wyss remain confident that their consortium, which includes an unnamed businessman, will be viewed favourably by the government and Premier League. It is understood that Candy, a Tory donor, is also seen as a strong contender to buy Chelsea. The property developer is working on finding investors and his proposals include plans for an expensive redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, which could work in his favour. Candy, a Chelsea fan, is worth a reported £1.5bn. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/mar/11/nick-candy-todd-boehly-hansjorg-wyss-serious-Chelsea-buyers-government-roman-abramovich

ZAPHOD2319 2,018
It looks like the license to operate is something that will change as the government works with Chelsea to allow the club to operate as close to normal without Roman receiving profit. All parties that want to purchase Chelsea are now being told to contact the government with proposals. https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/britain-work-with-Chelsea-fc-changes-its-licence-pms-spokesman-2022-03-11/ https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/potential-buyers-Chelsea-can-approach-uk-government-minister-2022-03-11/

They’re going to look mighty stupid if in just a few days we have a new owner. If I’m the new guy I’m terminating that deal and telling them to fuck off. Once the Abramovich “cloud” subsides I’m sure we’ll have no issue finding a main shirt sponsor just as lucrative as Three were.
Popular Post ZAPHOD2319 2,018
Nike confirms its commitment to Chelsea Nike remains committed to its partnership with Chelsea, The Athletic understands. Shirt sponsors Three announced it was suspending its deal with the Stamford Bridge club on Thursday. The telecommunications company asked for its logo to be removed from Chelsea’s playing kit after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government. Abramovich was hit with sanctions on Thursday morning by the UK government, with Chelsea protected by a government license. Described by the UK government as a “pro-Kremlin oligarch”, Abramovich has been sanctioned with an asset freeze and a travel ban. However, sources close to kit makers Nike have told The Athletic it is maintaining its relationship with Chelsea. There had been concerns over a deepening financial black hole at Chelsea if Nike dropped the club, as the deal is worth around £900 million over 15 years. Chelsea signed a 15-year kit deal with Nike in 2016, which is reported to be worth an estimated £60m a season. Nike does not comment on the figures involved. Nike produces Chelsea’s match kits, training gear and replica kits which are sold to fans. https://theathletic.com/news/nike-to-maintain-Chelsea-kit-sponsorship-deal-amid-abramovich-sanctions/ls17o7jyuR0L/
milka 2,829
There's not a lot of class around Chelsea at the moment. To go with the execrable chants of Roman Abramovich's name by the boneheads at Norwich City on Thursday night, we have the prospect of Newcastle United, whose Saudi state owners sanction the murder of journalists and the abduction of women who seek an independent life, visiting Stamford Bridge this weekend. Fortunately, this toxified club has a manager who stands on a higher plain and in a different class. Quite simply, Thomas Tuchel is the only good thing about Chelsea at this moment. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10603327/Thomas-Tuchel-good-thing-toxic-Chelsea-amid-Roman-Abramovich-saga.html

We may not win as many trophies as we have in the last 20 years, but I think we'll still remain competitive and challenge for them. The resources Abramovich gave us is almost impossible to follow and replicate, but as long as we're purchased in a prompt manner the club is on an extremely solid footing in terms of finances (if debt free), global appeal, squad and coaching quality, academy, etc. If Tuchel had to rock this same team next season with just loan players returning we'd still be very much in the mix and likely a strong favourite for top 4. Money is probably the easiest route to success but it's no guarantee, just like success doesn't need to be built purely on financial resources. Just ask United fans. Wouldnt be surprised to as mid table. My point is a new owner coming right in now would face protests if we decline due to lack of funds for players ala the Glazers/Mike Ashley. The PL and indeed Championship is littered with billionaire owners who are quite happy to make a profit on their investment, and for the team to languish in mediocrity. We have been spoiled with the amount of cash splashed via the Russian people, a rare epoch of our club. PSG. Man city, Newcastle are realistically owned by nation states with unlimited funds - personally I would like to see the 'Proper Fit Person' mantra actually applied, but preferably a shift towards the Bundesliga fan owned model. Laylabelle 8,800
I wonder if with Three part the reason they distanced themselves is because they're supporting calls in Ukraine whichever way they can and offering support that way..so don't want to be seen also supporting Roman.. Think they'll come back after. Least others haven't followed

Tricky Houseman 7
The sale of the club to an owner who is a responsible custodian is of course a worry. We won't get another owner like Roman who used his own money to develop the club. However my major concern is the situation with cash flow at the club at this present time. It's okay for the government to spout the usual rhetoric about cultural asset..blah blah. But people and businesses who serve the club need to be paid, also policing costs, travel. I'm not an expert on the legalities on how the money the club generates is going to be released for day to day running. I've read many pieces on the subject but most are very ambiguous with no real definite standpoint
