Tbh I was a little afraid of this loan but Christensen worked his way into the starting eleven and he has been excellent. I don't know if we can recall him next summer but I can see him play for Chelsea, this guy has really got everything to become a great CB.

A player of ours out on loan actually playing and excelling for a change. Nice to see

Our loan players excelling is nothing new. We have always had excellent prospects and youth products everyhwere showing what they got. We just tend to give them not remotedly as much time and chances as some regular first team members get...

Moses at Liverpool, Bamford at Palace, Boga at Rennes, Omeruo, Marin at Sevilla and Fiorentina, etc. We have a habit of loan players out and they hardly play. We should demand they play a certain percentage of games if fit (It can be done before people try and question it) before agreeing to any deals.

Their playing opportunities when returning is a completely different discussion.

we loan out 30 players per season. ofc there will be some who don't play. i could list you at least as many examples of the opposite. but as far as i know about our germany loans (piazon, kalas) we do have those clauses that we get more money when the players play less. most clubs just don't care about those few quids. loan fees are just some hundred thousands of pounds and they money we get back would only be some 10 000s so most clus don't care about that really.

A lot of them do. We just have a problem of integrating them in the team properly. Courtois is an exception however look at the likes of Bertrand, KDB, Lukaku, Chalobah...

That might be the case, but loans should then be cancelled in Jan should a certain percentage not be met. That looks like the likely outcome for Bamford in Jan for example.

The number of players that return after having great loan spells is minimal IMO. The last one can't even get on the field for Napoli (his time in the Championship should be taken with a gain of salt). Bertrand is the only one that should have stayed put and fought for his place, as it was clear to see he could have made the LB position his own. KDB and Lukaku just didn't work out; the former was let go way too soon.

TBF to Chalobah, we did not help him. He had an excellent season at Watford then we were not willing to send him there again because of wages dispute. He then settled for total different circumstances at Forest and it went downhill from there tbh. Mourinho obviously saw him as a great talent himself which is why he said he planned to make him part of the first team squad following season (You got to take everything Mourinho says on youth with a pinch of salt tbh).

But sometimes if you are not given the opportunity, your development will stall. Alli is thriving for Spurs and England despite jumping up two division after one season at his age. If Alli joined us, he would be in oblivion like Chalobah but he has a team that gives young players chances.

Bertrand would not have started. He should have been but Mourinho just would not of done that. The amount of games Luis got is exact proof of that. He rarely rotated and Luis was/is quality. Bertrand would have been in the same predicament and he was not prepared to accept that which is totally understandable. I would love him back here though. Think he is quality.
