Yeah his contract expires next summer. It will be interesting to see if it happens, i think it depends more on Lampard then Chelsea. If he has a lesser role next season, i think it is less likely he stays. He will have major offers abroad.

I hope not either, he played his best football in the double pivot this season. I think if RDM stays or another manager who continues the 4-2-3-1 then i think he can extend his career.

“I didn’t see Didier get too many mentions when they were voting for the Premier League team of the past 20 years.

“Maybe that’s because people like to make a fuss about the other side of his game. But having played with him for the last eight years I tell you without a doubt that he’s the best striker I’ve ever played with.

“His all-round game is absolutely immense and what happened in Munich on Saturday night just confirmed what I have always believed about him.

“He should be right up there with Henry, Rooney and Bergkamp among the all-time greats.

“Didier is going to leave a massive hole at our club but I love him as a bloke and I can’t be disappointed he’s leaving because he deserves everything he gets.

“He deserves to go out on a massive finish like this and I just wish him all the best. It’s been an absolute pleasure to play with him and I’m sure he’ll make the right decision about his next move.

Lampard admitted he almost inadvertently denied Drogba his moment of glory at the Allianz Arena when the striker equalised with a bullet header against Bayern Munich in the Champions League final.

Lamps said: “I was at the near post and felt a ‘whoosh’ come right past my head.

“It’s a good job I didn’t get anything on it because I’d have flicked it over the bar or something.

“I was watching his first Chelsea goal against Crystal Palace on Sky the other morning and it reminded me just how well he attacks the ball.

“I remember at the time thinking ‘this fella doesn’t half power it’ and now he’s gone and scored a goal like that in the Champions League final in his last game.

“Without that goal, we lose the final. It just shows how much Didier has brought to our club over the years.”

Lampard, 33, is now the senior statesman in the Chelsea squad.

But he still has another year of his contract to run and has no intention of bowing out despite finally achieving Champions League success.

He told talkSPORT: “It’s slowly sinking in just what we’ve achieved.

“It’s been such a long time coming and every year we’ve been asked ‘is this the one that’s going to elude you?’ And, if you’re honest, you do start to wonder if you will miss out.

“I’m 33, Didier’s 34 and it’s well documented we’ve got a few older boys in the team.

“The Champions League gets harder every year, Barcelona and Real Madrid have improved.

“So the fact that we’ve finally won it with that kind of performance is something very special to all of us.

“To be captain on the night was extra special. I’m always pleased to wear the armband when JT’s not playing but it’s not a massive ego thing for me.

“But on a night like that, when you lead the team and take responsibility on the pitch and realise how important it was for the club, yes, it was huge for me.

“I don’t really remember much of the match. It’s all a bit fuzzy in the mind. I remember the celebrations and the end part, but not all of it.

“I watched bits of it on German TV at six in the morning but I’d like to get a DVD to watch every bit of it and take it all in. I can remember Arjen Robben’s penalty miss. That was the moment when we really started to believe.

“When the ref gave the penalty I was thinking ‘oh no, not another one where we’ve fallen at the last hurdle’.

“But David Luiz kept saying to me ‘believe, believe, he’s going to miss it’. And he did.

“I’ve been in situations like that myself. The longer the gap between the award and the penalty being taken, the more the pressure builds.Arjen Robben and Petr Cech were best buddies at our club and know each other so well.

“So Robben’s got a lot of things going through his mind and then he’s got John Obi Mikel in his ear telling him he’s going to miss. It all adds up.”

At least Lampard held his nerve in the penalty shootout, sparking two days of wild celebrations after Drogba had despatched the winning spot-kick.

Lamps added: “I saw the pictures in the papers of our celebrations and I’ve got my eyes half closed in most of them. I look like my dad after he’s had a few!

“But we’ve waited so long for this moment that there would be something wrong with me if I didn’t have a couple of days celebrating it.”

Lampard was immense that night. Noticed how he ran everywhere to help defensively, side to side, end to end. I especially remember when Bosingwa was pinning Contento(?), then all of a sudden out of nowhere Lampard runs into the frame 100 km/h and Contento falls over anticipating a tackle. That summed up his performance and contribution, doing a large chunk of dirty work for the team. It's astonishing that a player, who is mostly known for his attacking and goal scoring ability, is such a presence in defence as well. Mostly players are unipolar, being good at either one or the other, but rarely at both like our super Frank.
