LBJ went on a tear, epic game after all the jokes and criticism he received after game one. LBJ is by far and away the most criticized super-star i have every seen, he can't ever catch a break. All the jokes and hypothetical questions like "What would Jordan have done?" get so annoying you just gotta tune those idiots out.

One minuet LBJ is the unanimous "Best player in the world" next thing you know they question his "mental" toughness after cramps. Sigh.

You couldn't be any more wrong. Talent wins NBA Championships. Look at the history books, the last team to win a championship w/o a superstar was the 2004 Pistons, name a team other than them to win a championship. Heck i'll even give you the Mavs, that's two teams out of the NBA's 67 Championships, got any more teams?

Why are people hell-bent on believing something that is not true in the sport of basketball? The spurs are a feel good story and i get that some want to see them succeed in order to 'prove a point' but Spurs winning this year wouldn't prove anything in the grand scheme of things. This is not the NFL where team chemistry on (offense AND defense) and getting hot at the right time is paramount to post-season success. Nor is this the NHL where a hot goalie can carry you deep into the playoffs.

The NBA has very little to no history of 'team-play' upending the more talented ones. Or better yet, don't tell me teams that win Championships don't have/need a superstar because all of the do.

You don't think star players win championships? Come off it.

Bulls two 3-peats with Jordan/Pippen LA -3 peat Shaq/Kobe. San Antonio-3 championships in 5 years with Tim Duncan/Manu/Tony. LA-Back to Back with Kobe/Odom/Pau and Bynum. Miami back to back-Wade/LBJ/Bosh

NBA is a talent driven league. The Spurs can be your feel-good story, just like the Mavs were in 2011 (and i was pulling for the Mavs cause of Kidd), but this won't prove your 'theory'. People react to what they see, and when the big three formed in miami they reached 4 straight championships. Oh but star players aren't the key? ok then.

The Spurs don't have a superstar and they haven't for years. Duncan was a superstar years ago but certainly hasn't been at that level for a long time. Anyway, you misunderstood what I was saying. Talent still matters enormously but there is a massive gap between who is considered a star and who is actually a great player who helps his team win. Kobe is still considered a superstar. Do you think any team can win with him anymore? You ask fans and they'd say Carmelo is a top-10 player but he couldn't take his team anywhere in a pathetic division. You can't win with a player like that. Team basketball with quality players is what wins. Miami has great talent but they also have the best true percentage shooting percentage. Their top 3 scorers all shot over .50%. You need the talent but the talent has to work together. For example, Dwight Howard is a fantastic player still but he completely imbalances the Rockets. You take a fast-paced team who can run with anyone and you put a slow player in there, you are going to have issues.

The Spurs have the best PF in basketball and best PG in basketball....

Unless you consider James and Durant and Melo as the only superstars, the Spurs have superstars....

TALENT WINS... The Pistons had Ben Wallace, Rasheed wallace, Billups, RIp Hamilton and Prince. The Pistons also won that year because Malone got injured and we played a freakin Slava as PF.....

IF YOU want to watch this SO CALLED TEAM BASKETBALL, you should be watching college bball, not the NBA....

Spurs are killing themselves again with miss FTs and Parker not being fully healthy....

GInoboli playing well. Leonard has sucked.

That elbow turned the game. Wasn't the same after. 4 missed ft's in a row don't help. Leonard has his hands full with LeBron, too many touch fouls on Leonard. Green and Diaw need to do more offensively.

Glad to see the Spurs off to a good start and hope they win. There is no greater gap in sports than the difference between what actually wins in the NBA (team efficiency, taking good tram shots) and what people think actually wins which is star players. The NBA is a star-obsessed league.Basketball is a team game and the Spurs play it as a team game. They will always be competitive under Popovich. They don't have a single elite player anymore and are already transitioning new players like Leonard and Green into regular minutes.

OKC will never win the championship with Scott Brooks. In the NBA, coaching does matter and he's not a good coach. He's just been lucky to have one of the most talented teams in his time there which can carry itself a long way. He just makes too many baffling decisions and has a simplistic gameplan that will catch up with him.

And Kobe rising again? Give me a break. The Lakers will never win again with Kobe there. If he's healthy, he'll score a lot of points ( a big if) but he's not the kind of player that can carry a team anymore and the Lakers have killed themselves with re-signing Kobe. As Jurgan Kilnsmann said "“This always happens in America,” Klinsmann told me, waving his hands in the air. “Kobe Bryant, for example — why does he get a two-year contract extension for $50 million? Because of what he is going to do in the next two years for the Lakers? Of course not. Of course not. He gets it because of what he has done before. It makes no sense. Why do you pay for what has already happened?"

Yes, Mr. Canadian. You sure know a lot about the NBA......

You make it seem that the Spurs don't rely on individual brilliance at all and play like the Hoosiers did 50 years ago...Spurs have arguably the best PF EVER TO PLAY BASKETBALL... THe best international PG to ever play the game...

They had a coach there forever and drafted players that would fit their system... You make it seem that the Spurs have scrubs on their team playing so called "team ball."

Yes, Kobe will never win again with the Lakers..... Except, they will. Free agents will come to LA and contract year players will come to LA. ALL THIS NONSENSE, I bet you wouldn't be saying any of this had Stern didn't reject the CP3 trade, which destroyed the Lakers chemistry (even though they were probably on the decline anyways). He got a 50m extension because the late Buss wanted Kobe to and because KOBE makes a lot of mula for the Lakers....

Jordan got paid 30m and 33m for in 96 and 97. So.................

You're joking. Duncan is 38 year old, sits out games, play only 29 minutes a game and was 11th among power forwards in scoring. He lacks explosive moves and can any speed at all. He's not close to being the best PF in the NBA. Would you take him over Love, Ibaka, Aldridge, Nowitzki, Griffin, or Davis? Not a chance. Duncan is one of the great players ever, but he hasn't been a consistent elite player for about 5 years. And Parker? The best PG in the NBA? He was 12th in PG scoring, 17th in assists, 14th in assist for 48 minutes, and he doesn't take 3s or get steals and isn't an elite defender. He also lacks the dominant offensive and explosive ability some other PGs have. What exactly makes him the best PG in the NBA?

Also, A Canadian invented basketball. Anyway, I do know a lot about the NBA and basketball.. And nobody ever said anything about scrubs or teams without talent (of course you need talent!) but the axiom of internet arguing applies once again. "If you can't argue the facts, invent the argument and attack the person."

Parker and Duncan are great, but they don't play 35-40 minutes a game. Duncan is a great PF but he can't carry a team. The Spurs don't have a player they can give the ball to who will take over a game. A go to scorer. They rely on ball movement, if they don't move it they can't win. They win as a team, because they don't have a guy who can win games late.

Parker can create his own shot and be relied on.... It's terrible Parker is always hurt in the finals.

Spurs don't rely purely on ball movement. Put the ball down low to Duncan and you'll get a high quality shot from him. He's still one of the best iso scorers in the post, advanced stats back that up.

They absolutely rely on ball movement. Have you seen them? They don't ever just throw the ball to Duncan in the post. They rely on ball movement and off the ball movement to get open.

He's not saying they don't, what he is saying though is that they don't just fully rely on ball movement, they do have the option to give it to Duncan in the low post or a TP iso... Essentially, their underlying play style is all about ball movement but they can and have before done iso plays.

Popovich on ball movement: "You move it or you die."

Very, very rarely do they just get the ball to Duncan and expect him to do it all.
