The worst moment of the season for me wasn't when we lost to Arsenal, or the humiliating defeats to Liverpool. It was the last hours of the transfer window, when Spurs rejected a £40m bid for Modric (AVB's number 1 transfer target). The player we had been chasing the entire summer, and for the deal to collapse in the final hours. In a panic move, the club signed an average 28 year old fringe player not fit to tie Modric’s boots. The board adopted a small club mentality and settled for what was merely available.

Harsh on Meireles because he wasn't signed as a "replacement" for Modric. He is a good squad player to have. But yes, I agree that we should have had more plans in case the Modric deal did not work out. We should not have pursued him til the final day and should have given up during the last week and put in a few bids on other players.

We would be in an even worse position if we didn't "settle" for Raul.

In terms of Lampard starting every game and there being no adequate cover for him and Rambo.

I agree, if we hadn't of got Raul then our midfield would be soo weak. He is a decent player IMO yesterday vs Wigan was his worse game in a Chelsea shirt.

Behave.

Disrespectful to Meireles. I could understand if he had performed as bad as someone like Torres has but he's been one of our most consistent performers this season. I guess this shows the attitude of certain fans at the club if this is your worst moment of the season. It seems some players just can't do anything right because they aren't bought for a ridiculous price. Spoilt fans. Would you rather the club not sign anyone and we're left in a bad position as we havnt got enough players in midfield? I'm glad we "settled for what was merely available" cause for me he has been a good signing & a useful player.

Irrelevant, it's not the 'price' (as you suggest) it's the caliber of the player, Modric was AVB's number 1 transfer target. He was exactly what we needed.. and still is. The two players are a class apart, it's signings like these that separate the top clubs.

I am agree with TX there. Barcelona - despite already having the best midfield in the world with Iniesta-Busquets-Xavi - bought another world-class midfielder in Fabregas, while us - who have a midfield in a deep mess - just have bought a good squad player. This fact means a lot.

No, its not. Judging by this logic maybe we should splash 500m per player on CR7, Messi, Iniesta and co just because they're what we need? Sometimes targets can't be achieved and you need to go for the next best thing instead.

So please, entertain me. What would you do in AVBs case if he wanted Modric but Spurs demanded 90m?

But wait! You also think the price is irrelevant! Maybe at CFC, maybe in the past, but with FFP rules coming thick and fast, we can't afford to buy expensive players like him or Torres every transfer window.

Ps, it's cute that you think a forum join date validates anything, you silly, silly troll :3

Everyone knows that Meireles wasn't the type of player we were looking for, but that's besides the point. The point is that TX has unnecessarily singled out the moment we signed Meireles as the worst moment this season when it was either that or 50+ starts for Lampard. And it's pretty disrespectful, too, like Kez said.

I understand what TX is trying to say here...

No disrespect to Raul..he's done a pretty decent job after arriving here but that job is what Lampard used to do (and did it even better) when he was in good form..namely the goal scoring runs into the box and spraying passes effortlessly,..

Modric might have well been the missing piece of our midfield puzzle....Its not really the club's or AVB's fault that we didn't get him..Its just unfortunate, considering the dumb spuds regularly bend over for Man Utd when they come along for new players...
