Have to give some props to Mata, really great player.

But this makes you think how good Valencia was: Mata, Silva, and Villa.

And even then, Real Madrid and Barcelona where miles ahead of them. Thus, showing why Real Madrid and Barcelona are so over that league, cause they are "Galacticos" in La Liga and in Europe!

Mata has such incredible vision! Just look at his assist today to Cole (yellow), also notice his option with Sturridge (red) that any other midfielder would have probably engaged, looking at Everton's zonal defense its very likely that Studge would have gotten shut down. His movement and mentality reminds me very much of Iniesta, its amazing.

If they were at Valencia today they would challenge.

You have to remember they all peaked in their final stages at Valencia.. They're a less successful Napoli if you will. As soon as Silva/Villa came to form City/Barcelona swooped in respectively. Mata chose to stay and evolve and now we bagged him.

Napoli have done one better and actually got the player in their prime playing.

Ah, David Villa joined Barcelona in 2010. He'd been in his prime for a very long time before that. Silva was already the complete article while at Valencia. He just didn't become a great player this year. Back in 2008 he was a prime player for Luis Aragones in the Euros. He's actually fallen down the pecking order with the national team under Del Bosque. His recent hot form has shot him back into DB's starting lineup.

So thankful that we got him. Liverpool were interested in him for a long long time. If Fat Spanish Waiter was still their manager, they probably would've signed him. And Arsene - LOL!

He's so unselfish as well - always making himself available for the team. A couple of times yesterday I wanted him to continue running and shoot after getting the ball but he chose to pass it and it was always the right call. Wonderful player.

True but you have to bear in mind the fact that Real and Barca get waay more money through their own seperate TV deals which allows them to fork out £50m each year without really having to. Imagine Valencia could spend £50m each year and add one or two players to their squad which already included Villa, Silva and Mata...

Yup, Villa and Silva where top dogs before that and in Euro 2008 where amazing. It's just that Valencia did not wanted to sell till they where force to sell due to financial problems.

True. I think I misspoke in that case..

They weren't in their prime as a team. The way that Valencia team was, a lot of potential, but no result. Villa was scoring for fun and Silva was a spark, but there was a lot going wrong for them in terms of team chemistry. Defensively they weren't sound and financial problems forced them to sell.

So in terms for Justin's OP. Valencia weren't that great of a 'team'. Just stand out individuals.

Imagine if we had Silva and Mata, I remember when Silva said he'd love to join us and he ended up at Man City somehow.

City are paying him like 185k a week, we should have snapped him (Silva) up in 2008 when he was getting linked with us that January.

We could have had Navas in 2006 if he wasn't so fond of Sevilla. I would rather look for alternatives then saying names that could have been. We all saw Mata as a second-choice, or some did, so maybe hriing one of us as a scour might mean we can sign some decent wingers :D
