laura90 534 Posted Monday at 15:28 Share Posted Monday at 15:28 It was more hilarious when people quoted Pep calling Donkeykaku world class. He was world class at making his competition weaker. Or when almost every pundit called us favorites after signing him, saying he would win us the league by storm. They are paid to make drama and sensation. It would be far less interesting had they said he would flop and spend entire season saying I told you so. And now Pep is offering his rejects to us for big money. Sterling is better player but... It's his thirteenth season or so in top flight. He is not at his peak. He is one or two years away from decline coming for the last enormous paycheck like Donkeykaku. If he flops, and big chances he will, we won't be able to move him just like we can't donkeykaku. Besides who will he displace? Owners favourite, Pulisic? And again people are waving with stats. You just can't look stats from Man City and expect them to replicate in Chelsea. Just like you couldn't look stats at Serie A and expect them to replicate in Premier League. We need two new midfielders. Until we improve midfield every new attacker is destined to underachieve. Unless he is the new Hazard, Or Messi. Or Ronaldo. Or Benzema.. Sterling no no no. High wages and we can't sell. Gabrie Jesus? Look above.

But for 35million and not big wages is a good deal to me.

I have a bad feeling about Sterling & Dembele, just like i had about Lukaku. If those are our only available attacking targets, I'd rather just stick with what we have and concentrate on repairing our back line with quality CBs and sign a backup fullback or 2. Given the less games this season compared to last, that should be enough to remain competitive for top 4.

He will probably stay at Barcelona.

People seem to accept that it HAS to be inter( which is where talks are happening now) but now that it is anyway so public , won't do us any harm to float a price in the market via "sources" I doubt people, apart from us, were paying £50m last Summer, let alone this Summer. People seem to be getting excited about him because he cost £100m+ when Barca were hitting the crackpipe harder than anyone in history with Barto. Since that transfer he has literally been a disaster barring his last 6 months which to me seemed like someone playing for their new mega contract after spending the previous 4.5 years not training properly, eating badly and reportedly playing PlayStation into the small hours. The only shred of hope I have is that he has some sort of mega bond with TT as I do appreciate when people click, things can work. Sterling I am just 'meh' on and it'll depend on what the exact figures are. In my book he will be a Pedro type signing in that he'll be a decent player for a few years with reasonable stats but you can't expect him to be a world beater. Thus, we have to ensure we aren't paying world beater money for him in either fees or wages.

Superblue_1986 5,330 Posted Tuesday at 11:42 Share Posted Tuesday at 11:42 There's talk that the Lukaku deal will include an option to extend the loan again next season but triggering that extension will also include an obligation to buy. Will see how this plays out. Ultimately I think it's going to be a case of getting his wages off the payroll and minimising his amortisation hit to the books each season for the forseeable. 2
