I wouldn't say signing him was based on youtube videos (that's harsh), but it ain't far from that. For me it seems like he was one of those 'let's buy him before someone else does'. I was skeptical at the time we got him and I still am, but we can only hope he develops into a decent player for us.

Err... For 19 years old he is playing lot's of minutes in the best league in the world, scored some goals. Also playing for Belgium NT which is full of good players, how is that bad ? I believe he has potential to be even better then Drogba, everything depends on him, time will tell !

Well, Lukaku was a bit of an enigma last night during Romania-Belgium. He came on during the second half as a sub for Benteke. I really thought his link up play and first touch looked much better. Also, you do really feel the boy weighs on a defense, almost solely due to his physical presence. He does create chances. This not withstanding he missed two incredible chances when through on goal alone. Unbelievable, but I believe he is 'growing' again as a striker.

Lol. This isn't Fifa or Football Manager. Lukaku won't magically become an amazing striker when he reaches a certain age.

"Oh, today's my 23rd birthday. Time to become a world-beater!".

The "he's only 19" is literally the poorest excuse when it comes to 'defending' him. (not that anyone was attacking him to begin with; just stating the obvious.)

Take age out of the equation - what does he do well? What does he bring to a team? He's very strong. And....

You knew Falcao will be so good when he was 19? I bet you didnt even know about him...

There is nothing more important for strikers, but experience. Nothing. Drogba was just a kid until 26...

There are strikers that are good when they are young, and there are strikers who get better when they realy grow up.

I would be happy if I had to wait until he is 26 (7 years) and then Lukaku had same effect to club as Drogba, you wouldnt?

Lukaku is nothing like Drogba, completely different strikers actually. Drogba was a real team player upfront, everyone scored goals around him and he was involved in almost every damn goal. He also has a great determination, hence his big game record.

There's some players you just can't change, look at Mario Balotelli, if he changed all his attitude and became a good guy, he would be a totally different player and for me he would be worse. His mentallity is getting back at people and proving people wrong, that's how he gets his goals, that's why he stands still when he scores and says a big fuck you to all the haters. Drogba used to sulk at times, sometimes never got involved in the team pre training because he used to be that pissed off, for example Carlo in the 2nd season, it was about december when he was like that, against that copenhagen.

Though i think mentallity can determine a player, my point is Lukaku has a completely different one to Drogba, i feel Lukaku is the one who will stay quiet and keep his frustration inside if there is any. But that also seems to keep him in good spirit and hope, like he is at West Brom, he's grateful for his minutes and enjoying his time there, playing with the team and not being too greedy to try and impress Chelsea. He's actually working for Steve Clark in the way he wants him to.

But in terms of a player, Lukaku will get you more goals than Drogba, Lukaku seems to be more of a goal scoring striker, his finishing and movement is actually very good despite a lot of missed chances at West Brom, i assure you when he's in his prime he will be scoring for fun from all angles and troubling defences. However i would expect him to be more of a Mario Gomez, not completely failing in big games, but not coming to life in them either. Like i doubt he will be able to raise his game, he seems more of the consistent in his own way type. Completely different striker to Drogs though, but he's a lot better than Drogba in some ways, under Roman we are still yet to have a striking goal machine.

I think that was what Drogba said or maybe it was his 24th birthday

You do know that's a stupid reason Leif, every player has potential, no one turns suddenly good, and it's not like Lukaku is dreadful infact he's very good.

Lets say if we never heard of Lukaku not even once, we didn't even buy him, West Brom signed him at the start of the season from some 5th belgian division or something. And if he was playing like he did, admit it most people on this forum would be wanting him and saying he's something special. He's been playing really good for his age, and he will only get better.

Problem is some people expected Lukaku to be as good as Drogba in his prime after maybe a season or two. He's still 19, has plenty of time to mature and define himself as a player.

People crave for us to sign young prodigies but when we actually do they almost automatically get written off after one or two bad performances. It's bad.

Tbh, I think he came to the PL too young. And last year's lack of minutes set back his development a huge deal. But to right him off already is so hypocritical by us. I mean we moan and moan about not promoting young players to the starting XI and then go and slate them at every mistake..even when those mistakes are not affecting our team at all!
