Not sure link is working From The Times January 14, 2010 Chelsea could be forced to pay up to £10 million for Daniel Sturridge <H2 class="sub-heading padding-top-5 padding-bottom-15"></H2> Chelsea will discover at a Premier League tribunal today how much they must pay Manchester City for signing Daniel Sturridge. City were demanding £10 million for the 20-year-old striker when talks broke down, with Chelsea offering £3 million. Sturridge signed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge last summer after rejecting a new deal at City, but because he received the bulk of his footballing education at the City of Manchester Stadium after arriving as a 14-year-old schoolboy, the club are entitled to a development fee. Mark Hughes, the former City manager, had been keen to retain Sturridge, who was voted the club’s Young Player of the Year at the end of the 2008-09 season, but was unable to agree terms with the player’s representatives. function slideshowPopUp(url){pictureGalleryPopupPic(url);return false;} Related Links Ancelotti forced to put trust in youngsters Essien poised to join Ghana team in Angola Cole running out of time to prove his worth Sturridge is believed to have asked for £75,000 a week in wages to stay at City, an outrageous demand made in the knowledge that Chelsea were standing by with an offer of £40,000. Sturridge’s departure to Barclays Premier League rivals was viewed as a significant loss by City, who were determined to gain compensation. It is understood that City would settle for a fee of £7 million today, but Chelsea will be unhappy if they have to pay more than half that amount. Chelsea agreed in an out-of-court settlement four years ago to pay Leeds United £5 million in compensation for Michael Woods and Tom Taiwo, the teenagers, after they had been accused of making illegal approaches to the pair. Last week, Taiwo, 19, signed for Carlisle United for an undisclosed fee. Sturridge has made little impact since joining Chelsea, making eight appearances and starting one Premier League match this season, which the club may seek to use in their favour to secure a low settlement. Chelsea will also point out that Sturridge made only 24 appearances for City in a more modest team. But Sturridge is enjoying his best run in the side, having scored his first goals for the club in the 5-0 FA Cup win over Watford 11 days ago. Carlo Ancelotti, the manager, took the first-team squad for a meal last week to thank them for their efforts in finishing 2009 at the top of the Premier League. “It’s the first time since I have been playing that a manager has taken everyone out and paid for it as well,” John Terry, the captain, said.

Tribunal today. Chelsea have been cute in not playing him to get his value down ?? Surely not http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/Chelsea/article6987076.ece

Good point. Admission prices have doubled since the Glazers took over, and I cant ever see them lowering admission. Though the Glazer family said they wouldnt pay themselves a salary -they have siphoned out £10 million quid to their sons and kids. This is disgusting that fans who have more allegiance to a club than their wives are being preyed upon by parasites, cashing in on peoples loyalties and putting the club at risk. This is what UEFA and FIFA should be looking at !! Chelsea fans and Man City fans can consider themselves lucky that their owners arent in it for a quick profit and didnt borrow the money to buy the club. -another good article--''How the Glazer Family have Milked Man Utd for Millions'' http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/jan/12/manchester-united-glazers-debt

Yup - its important that that these millionaires stop milking a brand for cash. Most Man Utd fans want these leeches out http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1242452/We-rid-Glazer-leeches--Manchester-United-fans-lash-debt-ridden-owners-unveil-500m-bonds-scheme.html

Youcan understand it when sides take their foot of the pedal at 4-0 up , but there should be alarm bells ringing when 2 are pulled back. Oh god reminds me of the murderers in Istanbul...

There is a huge difference between 'losses' and 'debts'. The Old Trafford club paid £41.9m in interest on a £509.5m loan last year that the Glazer freaks borrowed from the bank to buy the club Without the sale of Ronaldo, they would have reported a loss of £31.8m. Although no total debt figure was disclosed in the results announcement, it has been reported as £699m. They have just launched a £500m bond in order to raise cash. What this means is people can make money by bond issues, and what they're essentially buying into is 'brand Man Utd'. Instead of top clubs relying on good old fan admission, they're relying on marketing of the image and brand. This is fine if they remain a top club, but if a brand goes tits up, say Coca Cola changed the recipe or was poisoned how would the sales go then ? If Yernited fail to qualify for Europe, or have a trophy less season, suddenly Johnny foreigner doesnt want to be associated with that brand anymore. The house of cards collapses. Liverpool are in financial trouble, and will be a lot worse next year if nothing is done. It is only a matter of time before one or several of the big clubs do a 'Leeds' as they say.....
-
Thats true. UEFA and the governing bodies have turned a blind eye to the Glazer freaks having to remortgage Man utd. Even with the sale of Ronaldo and a club profit, all this cash goes to pay off the Glazers debts. There is a real possibility of Man Utd going to the wall at some point....

Would like to see him at SW 6. Skilful hardworker. Abramovich is still baulking at the credit crunch and wont pay silly money though....so would be surprised if the club outbid Real Madrid..

He has got really bitter of late, worse than usual. God knows what he'll be like if the latest yank parasite, Kroenke, gets another 11 shares and then owns the club outright....
-
Dont understand Carlo saying Anelka is fit for Watford -if he gets kicked to high heaven would be a disaster -hes invaluable for next few league games...
-
Quite a tricky one -see what you mean about Henry, definitely in a skill class of his own , but always a bit cuntish when we played against him - so I'd-have to go for a Chels player. Drogba recently, Terry and Desailly because you felt safe when they were behind the ball. Overall for a Chelsea player, for sheer ingenuity, it would be Gudjohnsen. Non Chelsea would be Zinedine...

Never lost to Brum in the Premiership, and dont intend to start. Jumped up Jasper Carrotts.
-
Well with no Drogba , Anelka, Kalou or Deco for that matter. Sturridge and/or Borini to start up front. A starting line up that might have had success against the Cypriots....
-
Quite pleased with this. Carlo will have the measure of them tactically. Draw there, win at home should do it !
-
Top keeper in his prime, everything used to stick. Then it all started to slip through his hands...

Theres that bit of commentary during one of the early Prem Arse v Yernited games '' ..and Beckham lobs Seamen !''
-
Thats Alan Birchenall. He was a favourite winger when we went in the 70's. Played for Leiceseter as well.....
-
HAHAHAHAHAHA !!! Yup too many blacks round the bridge now. Johnny Come Latelys Warnie.

Incredible that some were booing. Can only think they were tourists or JCLs.
-
Dropping Cech is not the answer though he does need a rival in the wings . Saturday was one of those days where things go wrong, but the Keystone cops defending from set pieces needs sorting as people have said..Might have been worse if Cahill had been there, but better if Essien wasnt injured....
-
How did you work that one out then ? It's you who started the negative thread. Oh and it's 'defence' in English by the way. Oh sorry, forgot, your'e a big bad yank rapper.

No, seriously, you're right its a wasted season, ..er..innit bro ?
