i guess i took your use of the word "decent" too literally. all due respect to those clubs ..but if Roman bought any of those teams i would expect all of the players to be loaned out with a view to selling them a.s.a.p.
-
they probably just come to the realisation that they`ve got a really poor squad thanks to Rafa`s shambolic record in the transfer market and lack of talent coming through the youth ranks. Remy is a decent young player but not an out and out 20 plus goals a season striker.
-
i think i should state again though..that i wouldn`t want Torres anyway.
-
name some then.
-
well..if you class Newcastle as decent....

well i hadn`t heard that until now..i try to stay out of politics and that kinda stuff....but i`ve noticed there always seems to be a bit of doom talk when a country or countries get a major sports event held in their land for the first time, from football tournaments to the Olympics and things always seem to work out fine in the end....atleast in the case of the event taking place as planned. -

thanks for the inside information Manuf, an interesting read. i must admit when they announced that Poland & Ukraine were getting the European Championships..my first reaction was..oh fook, Sweden `92 all over again...but atleast for the games in Poland i feel a bit more relaxed now..tho if England play like they did in the WC, they won`t be out there anyway. that stadium looks pretty decent, fair play.. -

yes..it would be like a trip down memory lane... seriously tho..don`t fancy a ruck on foreign land...was more appealing when i was younger ,felt invincible and even when i didn`t, could atleast run like Ben Johnson on crack. it gets scarier the older you get tho methinks..certainly is for me...maybe i`ve smoked too much pot and listened to too many Otis Redding records..i`ve become a pussy.. -
that is my point really:not having enough experienced ones..last year we coped because we had the experienced depth. i thought we`d be fine without Drogba in january to be honest (i realise i wasn`t on here at the time to prove that, but i did)..because of our fixture list during that month and still having Anelka to fall back on.. i hope Essien`s injuries are behind him..but there`s always gonna be that fear factor after the last two seasons...for me personally i would be fine with taking the gamble and giving all the depth to young unproven players that we already have...but i keep thinking about there only being another two years with Drogba & Lamps and really want them to get a Champions league medal before they retire and think that somebody like Khedira would give us more chance in that time span.

sorry ,just caught the replay and he said two players who has not yet played with the first team NOT two who has yet to start.
-
Butch Wilkins said on "Live from Stamford Bridge" that two players who have never started for us, will start tomorrow....be interesting to see who those two are..
-
all three were injured for lengthy periods last year... the main reason we won the league and cup double last year was because of the depth of our squad..at present we don`t have that, especially in midfield.

i never thought i`d enjoy the words of a Liverpool manager so much...tho with Daglish,Souness,Roy Evans,Houlier & Benitez being their previous managers..it`s been a long time since i could understand a word a Liverpool manager has said...:eyebrows:
-
totally agree with both X2

If he was to be allowed to leave Bayern i would fancy our chances...if he was Portugese or Spanish then we wouldn`t stand a chance up against Real (or Barcelona) but i think players from other countries see the English and Spanish leagues as equal and in some cases the English league more desirable...also even if i was neutral and a top player i think i would pick Chelsea over Real..if it came down to a purely football related decision...i would think going to Chelsea and helping them win the European Cup for the first time in their history..where i would then become an instant legend..would be more desirable than going to a club where if i didn`t help them win the European Cup every season i would be seen as a failure. of course this could all be scuppered if Bayern are true to their form and refuse to let him go...even against his wishes, like they have done in the past. i can`t see them letting him go personally..but it would be awesome if we could get him and if we could get him and Aguero..i think we would be destined to be European Champs in the next two seasons.

got mine in a couple of days ago... my old man has "retired" from going to games now (he`s in his 60`s and his health ain`t the best,,all that travelling etc..).so i`ll be goin` solo from now on... home games are great obviously, like going to the Promised land..but it`s the away days that really do it for me..hope to go to as many of them as possible. can`t wait to see who we get to play in the champions league too...hope we get some cool places to go to.. -
well i think this site is evidence that the clubs old catchment area for fans has stretched beyond the traditional West and South London areas in recent years.

New Chelsea signing Tomas Kalas has revealed he turned down moves to Arsenal and Germany in favour of the Blues. The 17-year-old defender has reportedly penned a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2016, in a deal from Czech side Sigma Olomouc thought to be worth in the region of £5million. Kalas has only made one appearance in the Czech top-flight so far, but the blues have seen enough in him to offer him a long-term deal, although he will return to Olomouc on loan next season. The youngster reveals he turned down moves to the Gunners, as well as German sides Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim and instead opted on a switch to Chelsea. "There were rumours flying around already during the spring, but at that time there were more clubs around me," he told iDnes.cz. "It became more specific only after the U-17 European Championship in Liechtenstein in May. Chelsea scouts were present there. "Then I, my dad and Olomouc were proposed a specific offer. But Mr (Frank, sporting director) Arnesen told me I had been on the list already before the Euro and they had been following me for two years." On who else was interested in him, Kalas added: "Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim from the Bundesliga and apart from Chelsea also Arsenal. "I have been to both German clubs and also Arsenal, but the best impression was left on me by Chelsea. "People say that Arsenal are famous for their academy, but from what I could see during my days at Chelsea, that really impressed me. "Even my dad thought of Chelsea as the best option. Moreover, I have been a Chelsea fan since I was a little kid. "I am convinced I have made the right decision by joining Chelsea. After all, by this I am making my dream come true." * from SkySports website*

just look at Roman during games..does he look like somebody who has lost his passion for the club? he may not be the richest owner in the world of football anymore but he`s still a multi-billionaire who can afford to maintain a top 5 european club like us...there may be restructuring going on..but i don`t think that has to mean Roman is leaving..and he would atleast put the club up for sale first. i think the Abramovich family will own Chelsea for decades to come..i`m "only" 34 and can`t see another family owning the club in my lifetime (remember in part he bought the club for his son aswell as himself) ..Roman has invested too much in the past to walk away now and selling the club during a period where we are just starting to recover from a global recession...aint the kind of thing a self-made billionaire businessman would be so foolish to even consider.
-
he may not have been famous throughout the world but to say no one knew him before the WC isn`t accurate..he was part of the Stuttgart team that were German league Champions in 2007 for example..captain of the German under 21 side that won the European Championship last year etc.. with the second use of the letters WC ,i presume that is meant to mean World Class...how many teams have a full squad or even just team full of World class players tho..we won the double last year..Inter won the Champions league..how many world class players did those two teams have between them..6 or 7? you admit that he will be good as a supporting cast (player)...i agree with that...but that is enough for me to want to sign him..11 players on the field they all can`t have the ball at the same time. Schweinstager ..i`d rather too..i`d rather Xavi but we talking real football not Xbox here...theres almost zero chance of him being allowed to leave Bayern.
-
theres some talk going about that Real are getting close to signing him..for..wait for it........£8.5m.....come on Chelsea ..step in and pick up this bargain.

Can remember all players mentioned so far... i`ll add one..Tony Godden. quite a cult hero at the time..(`86 & `87) .a journeyman goalkeeper who due to injuries found himself starting for us initially on loan ..in a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford he saved two penalties at the stretford end... even when by todays standards we would be classed "shit"..no away team could beat our record at Old Trafford.. even in years where we would be fighting relegation..we would still more times than not,get a result at Old Traff..
