I fail to see why people are concerned about him. His only two noticeable flaws are lack of experience and heavy touch. He will eventually learn how to get underneath the ball and when to hold the defender off and when to make a run. And his first touch may be awful now, but players often see a significant improvement in certain aspects of their game through focused training. I remember Sturridge couldn't use his right foot at all a couple seasons ago, but he's now pretty comfortable with it. Rooney also expressed in 2010 that he had improved greatly on his aerial ability through continuous, focused training.

There are so many different ways in which a player can make an assist in football without intending to assist a teammate to score: taking a corner or a free kick, earning a penalty, having your shot parried away to your teammate, causing an own goal to be scored, etc. General stats like goals and assists are absolutely useless for analysis in football.
EDIT: taking corners or free kicks IS usually done to help a teammate score, but you don't need to be a good team player to make assists that way.

Valid point mate, i could also say mata has 26 assists in all competition and i dont think he is selfish. If you say marin is selfish because you consistently watched him all through out his career then there is no argument but if you are judging him based on assumption then lets give him the benefit of the doubt.

He played very well yesterday despite that terrible mistake at the back. He showed exactly what you'd expect from a midfield play maker - get the ball, quickly advance, and play an incisive through ball forward. I'll have to see how well he does in the rest of our pre-season games, but my hopes are high.

One of the worst forms of criticism leveled against Mikel in recent times, is that Oriol Romeu makes more forward passes than he does.

It's probably too early to say this, but Torres seems to have gotten his striker instinct back. His movement is sharper, and he no longer hesitates in one-on-one situations and seems to know exactly where to put the ball. Hopefully, he can continue his form.

Del Bosque can be an idiot at times. The decision to use Negredo for the first time in a semi final was farcicle. Everyone could see Torres should have played and he could have scored if he did, due to the space in behind the back four. We should have more belief in Torres.

I believe AVB was blowing out of his ass, he didn't look or sound convincing at all whenever he was asked that. And he was in an extreme situation as a manager, he was always going to get sacked. Players are looked at in a much more lenient way, how else can we explain how the likes of Kalou stayed here so long?
During the summer there is not much Torres can do to fuck up. Euros? Meh, who cares how he does there, it's not Chelsea and won't probably affect our board's mind... He scored twice already anyway, that's probably enough to send Roman spunking. Pre-season? Benayoun and McEachran were one of the best last summer, yet one was sent on loan and the other was left rotting. They are mostly played to assess and improve players' fitness. True quality is assessed in competitive games, and the next competitive games for him will start next season. Whether he performs good or bad in the USA is irrelevant I think.
I am almost certain he will be given one more year at least. I can't see a usually taciturn Torres going around announcing that he was given assurance if it was not really the case. We haven't been strongly linked to any strikers either, most strong rumours are about wingers and now right backs. At this point it shows we have no intention of replacing him and are focusing on improving the service instead.

I like the 4-2-3-1 more than 4-3-3. That double screen in front of the defence is great and helps our stability.
