No title challenge for us with him spearheading the way unfortunately guys.

TBF he played really well yesterday. Held the ball well, linked up nicely and made some good passes. The only thing missing was a goal.

Two best midfielders that changed teams this summer are Jorginho and Kovacic. And we've got both of them. Talk about rebuilding that midfield!

Don't jinx it mate, steady on.

  3. Even though the CBs of Belgium were fantastic against Brazil, the real star at the back was no doubt Courtois. Haven't seen this Courtois for a while now for Chelsea.

  4. Nearly untouchable tonight. Had a bit of wobble during the middle stages of the second half and towards the end there was no getting the ball off him without hearing the ref's whistle.

Tell you what, I've no idea how these things actually work but it is becoming pretty clear that marina, whilst attempting to use her business tactics/drive a hard bargain/penny pinch is just routinely pissing club's off and accomplishing nothing except dragging transfer dealings on for a prolonged period of time. Need an actual football person in and have her back dealing with Romans oil

Absolutely! Ever since Marina has been tasked with handling transfer negotiations, every single transfer feels like a saga and the worst part is that we always come out on the losing side. Strictly speaking in terms of player acquisition of course.

  6. Tbh I'd sell Cesc without any hesitation this summer while we can still get some money for him. We all know that Cesc's legs have been gone since 2015 but more recently I feel that his biggest asset which is his passing has also gone down the drain. Sure he may give the occasional wonderful throughball but he doesn't inspire confidence on the ball anymore the way he used to. So I'd sell Cesc and replace him with Seri. This will leave our midfield options for next season as Kante, Seri, Golovin, Barkley, RLC and Baka which is more than adequate for league plus the vigours of Europa league. Goes without saying that Drinkwater should also be sold.

  7. We are probably waiting for the deadline of the release clause to pass so that we can try to negotiate the price down only for someone else to swoop in and sign Seri leaving us scrambling for the signature Jonjo Shelvey on deadline day.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club decides to start with bats and giroud for next season, but that's not good enough imo to challenge for the league...

The way the board has been acting for the past few summers, do you really think challenging for the league is an objective anymore? Doesn't seem that way to me.

  9. I'm afraid that a pairing of Christensen and Rugani might struggle against the more physical forwards as both players are essentially of the same kind with very similar strengths and weaknesses.

Would be interesting to see what Sarri did with Eden. Like the idea of perhaps having him more centrally but we need the right players to do so.

If we take Sarri’s current system:

    Reina

    Hysaj Albiol Koulibaly Ghoulam

    Jorginho

    Allan Hamsik

    Callejon Mertens/Milik Insigne

    vs.

    Courtois

    Azpilicueta Christensen Rüdiger Emerson

    Diawara

    Kanté Hazard

    Bailey Icardi Martial

Something like this would be mega interesting. Champagne football with a real shot at the title.

Hazard in midfield would leave us quite unbalanced I would say. Let me propose this

    Courtois

    Azpi-Christensen-Rudiger-Emerson

    Kante-Diawara/Meyer/Jorginho-Barkley

    Fekir-Icardi-Hazard

OL are playing Stratsbourg on BT sports at the moment and Fekir is by far the best player on the pitch once again. An absolute beast of a player. I'd be gutted if the scouse get him.

While I absolutely love Fekir as a player, I don't think he fits into our side. He'd fit into our current 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 (albeit at the expense of Eden) like a glove but the thing is that can't see us continuing with a 3 man backline next season. The kind of names we are linked with seldom play with a 3 at the back formation which leaves us with the standard 4-3-3 formation deployed by Sarri or the 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 deployed by Jardim. Don't personally think we will hire Enrique thankfully. So in a 4-3-3, Fekir will have a hard time fitting in as he is a classic second striker/ No#10. You could argue that he can be played in a midfield three but I don't think that gets the best out of him. In a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1, Fekir will be in direct competition with Eden unless Eden goes back to the left wing which I don't think he should as he seems to have lost a burst of acceleration which made him so deadly on the wing. Maybe the No#10/second striker role is the future for Eden. Due to this, I think Fekir might create a headache for our next manager if we sign him (which we are never going to lol) as he is nowhere near as effective on the wing or in midfield.

I propose that we go after Thauvin, Yeah I know he flopped at Newcastle but he has arguably been the second or third best player in the French league this season and is a winger very much in the Robben mold with good workrate. He brings the kind of stuff our team has been missing lately.

Would only sell if we can get a truly good replacement.

Icardi has a nice little 97m release clause in his contract. He has got that killer mentality in spades as well whilst not being technically as good as Alvaro.

To be fair, we can all continue to say certain players aren't ready, but you have Dele Alli thriving for Spurs, and he came from a league one side.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has had his breakthrough season at Liverpool and he never even went out on loan once!

  14. So Chelsea once again came to the party too late apparently, this has become the theme of our transfer business under Marina along with signing Everton level players. Anyway, another great signing for Liverpool if reports are to be believed. Fekir is an immense player.
