  1. I have no opinion on Super League, but laughing so hard on Uefa/Fifa crybabies stomping their feet because the stream of dirty money is threatened. How can they throw away teams from CL right now? On basis of what? Twitter statement? What is it, Orwell? Thoughtcrime? Nothing has happened yet and it all looks like childish and desperate money conflict. Even if they'd try to ban anything or anyone right now, potential lawsuits would sink FIFA/UEFA far quicker, than SL would. I wouldn't even be surprised if teams in question in CL would sue for damaging their reputation and potentially

  3. Hello Came back to read what everyone was thinking about this and thought I'd throw in my two cents. I think as several here already said that the initial negative backlash is to be expected and most likely already calculated by the 12 clubs. I also think that UEFA have a lot less power in this than they think and that their initial response basically showed all their cards to everyone. I genuinely think that this will go through and the 12 or 15 will get what they want. Side note: The hypocrisy of the Premiere League condemning a bunch of big clubs creating a break-away leagu

  5. Klopp did said something interesting, UEFA and FIFA are also about money. They are jamming the clubs with more fixtures, and expanding the Club world cup for more games because of money.

  7. Quite telling how none of the billionaire owners have come out to explain how wonderful their idea is for football ? And not just about them getting richer ?? Theyre spineless snakes, I include Abramovich in that category. Come on, speak publicly about your wonderful plan. They cant because its just greed.

  8. Thing is now lets say this super league goes ahead, teams leave domestic leagues, dont play world cups or euro tournaments, whats to stop other teams breaking away and forming other leagues in the future also? People dont seem to understand the magnitude of it. Its going to rip football apart.

  13. Well again though, is it fair that clubs like West Ham, Leicester City, Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt, Atalanta, could end up playing in a CL that is depleted due to these 12 clubs leaving? Or even worse if it replaced the CL completely never be able to get in to it based on merit? Its not just about 12 clubs. Its about the countless others who will also get affected by this. If we don’t back track and they kick us, City and Real out we really cannot complain. They said they would do these things so if they do after we’ve been warned I don’t know what your expecting. Regardless of it if

  14. The funny thing about this is, the revamped Champions League isn't any better than the Super League proposal. It's very similar or if not, worse. It practically also looks to protect the interest of the big clubs. And Micah Richards was just saying on BBC Live earlier, when it comes to racism, UEFA usually dilly-dally over it but when it comes to this, when it comes to money, there's suddenly a huge uproar and UEFA want firm action ASAP.

  15. Well, you have Florentino Perez coming out later in Spain to speak about this. But otherwise yeah, they're fucking spineless. They agreed to the decision and then left the manager and players hanging in the media, when they weren't even part of the decision making process.

  16. No team nor player has yet played outside FIFA/UEFA governed match, so they can't do shit and if they will, they will be sued to death, nothing more to it. Funny how every fan know how rotten those organisations are yet most of people are eager to defend them in what is clearly theatrical war for cash and power.

  17. And FIFA, UEFA etc can surely also sue the clubs no? Any club who does get kicked out has a real cheek to sue them for this. They made their bed the minute they put their name to this idea, they have to lie in it now. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs a reality check

  18. I think they should take us Real and City out and put the likes of Porto through, Dortmund through and make Leipzig/Atalanta play and put one of them through as they played against Liverpool and Madrid. It would send a message. People may think is a bit ridiculous but they have to send a message. There are also rumours we and City are looking at a way out if it already, due to the backlash from all the governing bodies and fans etc but honestly, thats even worse than joining it in the first place due to fear of missing out/being left behind. Knowing it wasn’t the right thing to do

  19. The timing of the statement makes me wonder. Could it be that discussions in the background did not satisfy the big clubs nor the possible discussions brought any compromise for neither side, and they wanted to make a statement to "one up" UEFA's imminent public proposal? Either way I'm more than certain that these things will play out - there's too much money on the line for all sides involved. And I must reiterate - UEFA/FIFA /... are NOT the victims, they're all the same.

  21. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "My feelings didn't change. My opinion didn't change [from when he has criticised Super League suggestions in the past]. I heard for the first time about it yesterday. I was trying to prepare for a difficult game. "We got some information, not a lot. Most of the things in the newspapers. It's a tough one. People are not happy with it, I can understand it. I can't say a lot more because we were not involved in the process - not the players, not me - we didn't know about it. We will have to wait how it develops

  22. UEFA ain’t gonna do shit. Neither will the PL, neither will the other European leagues. They need these big clubs more than the clubs need them. Interest and therefore viewership falls through the floor without these clubs, sponsorships dry up, TV broadcast money dries up. This is the obvious gamble and bet the Super League teams are making. There is a massive backlash initially but they all realize that they hold all the power here.

  23. Its a joke, politics have no business in sports and nor should it. They sold out......the owners and the clubs involved will never be seen in a good light They cant......a super lawyer said today neither PL or Uefa can win this battle in court.

  28. I wish people would stop saying we are joining because of fear of missing out as if it means anything. Or makes it any better. We still joined it. Bayern and Dortmund said no. PSG said no. Club had the chance to set a precedent as one of Europe’s leading clubs and we didnt. Nor did United, Arsenal and Liverpool who’s history is a huge part of English football. Mourinho apparently lost his job today because he refused to train the players because of Spurs decision to join the super league.

  29. No one would watch the league anymore that is why it would be suicide for PL to apply any kind of meaningful punishment. The clubs know they are in the position of power here. Especially as they have signalled to cooperate with the domestic leagues. The real battle will be about international football.

  30. At the end of the day I will still be watching this. But I hope it don't ends up like a fail football league that WWE tried to make (XFL), total failure that. However this is different because you have the biggest club that here in US people follow. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester United, City, Chelsea, Juventus, Inter etc etc. As in the words of 2008 crisis, they are "too big to fail". These clubs do have great power in pulling this and they will do it as people all over the world will continue to watch them. Now the leagues will be fool by kicking these teams

  31. The reality is that people will still support Chelsea whether they're playing in the European Super League or the Conference. How many clubs stage protests against owners, managers staying or being sacked, players being sold, etc yet when it comes down to things they are still cheering the team on every week whether it's in the stadium or on TV. The reality check, rightly or wrongly and however poisonous it may sound, is for the small percentage of fans who do make a stand and turn their back on the club, these clubs will develop a brand that will over time give them a fan base that

  33. Greed, pure and simple. A few billionaires want to get richer and used the cover of the pandemic to plan getting more money. They forget where their money originally comes from when they buy a cash cow club. I hope some players grow a pair and get together to say fuck this we're not doing it. I hope FIFA UEFA and all football authorities say they will not let the players that partake in this circus restrict their participation in their tournaments. T*ttenham Arsenal the elites ? yeah right.

  34. Another thing to note is that the "big 6" in England have wanted more power over decision making for a long time. The opposition to the 5 sub rule for this season always felt like a bit of a middle finger from the "lesser" teams across the league. The Premier League model has been proven and the attraction of it as a brand across the world shows that it still holds significant value to these big clubs. They'll still want a piece of that. And the other 14 clubs will not want to lose that, because it's value and appeal will be barely a fraction without the big clubs. The harsh reality is th

  36. I'm prepared to very much "sit on the fence" over this for the time being as more information will continue to filter out over the coming days and weeks. At the moment whilst things are so raw, there's always going to be a huge negative backlash around it. I don't mind the idea of breaking away from UEFA to form a cup competition amongst the elite sides in Europe. There has been huge issues with UEFA for years, yet they've been able to continue on their way because they consider themselves untouchable. So either breaking away from that, or forcing UEFA's hand to drastic reforms to me isn

  38. But at the same time, do we really want to watch Chelsea vs Barcelona say 4 times a year? Remember how people moaned in the past about certain clubs always face each other in the Champions League - e.g. Arsenal v Bayern? At some point, the allure of those big fixtures will be gone in the Super League and we'll be looking at those games like Burnley v West Brom. And it's also why our tie against Real Madrid feels big, special etc because we have rarely played them in Europe.

  39. The timing is terrible. all the players now have their heads in the clouds... should i leave the club so i can sitll play the world cup? do we even need to win this? why the f did they not simply wait after the season is over... duds

  40. This is quite possibly the greatest embarrassment in the history of sports.
    2 points
  41. Nah, can’t see that. Without the “big 6” the PL viewership and ad money would collapse. No chance they get kicked out. Nobody outside of England will want to watch West Ham, Everton, and the rest of these average teams. They want to watch the big boys.

  42. Breach of contract, they can ban us from next season though......though at this point of time I dont think uefa gives a rats ass Sue the clubs why? The remaining clubs have a contract to fulfil and so do uefa. If they throw us out we will win the battle in court. Whether its right or wrong is another matter.

  46. I still think this is merely a powerplay at present to strong arm UEFA to pander to these clubs more. It's of no coincidence this has been leaked the day before an apparent reform of the Champions League model was being announced by UEFA. However if this does force through a complete breakaway then I only see two options ending up happening. These clubs pull other clubs in with them to form their own domestic leagues to compete in alongside this, or they completely close shop and set up a model like the NFL where they end up eventually expanding to 24, 32 teams, whatever and sets up accor
