This article is written by a spurs fan but gives an excellent analysis of what problems could be delaying the building of the stadium

Wow, author did a great job of getting a lot more details of this than we know, fair play to him. Couple of eye jumping extracts:

Quote
  • Simply put, until Chelsea can come up with a design on the eastern side of the project that satisfies Network Rail in terms of maintenance, safety and cost, the project cannot proceed. The need for a further public consultation will mean delays.
  • But you can’t simply demolish housing. Chelsea Village has 38 apartments with total floor space of 4,005 square metres, and Chelsea must find an alternative site and rebuild it. This will be both difficult and enormously expensive in Hammersmith and Fulham.
  • As previously mentioned, the Southern Mainline is a major freight route as well as a route for passenger services. Having used West Brompton station frequently, I can attest to how often these massive freight trains rumble through.

There is one particular type of freight that travels along the line which may give the planners pause before giving Chelsea permission to build a stadium over the top of it — nuclear waste.

Brady confirming that her discussions over use of the Olympic Stadium were from 2018 onwards

Though the FA have not rejected the possibility of a ground share between Chelsea and Spurs it appears the Blues are considering more options than just the national stadium, with a move across London to Stratford having been discussed.

However Brady has warned Chelsea that West Ham will set the terms for any possible deal to share the Olympic Stadium.

“I have very good relations with Chelsea and, yes, they have enquired about a ground share in 2018.

“Any final decision on letting the Blues move in will be ours and not the London Legacy Development Corporation’s, or indeed Chelsea.”

Stamford Bridge Gates competition update

Quote

The club recently held a public competition for the design of a set of landmark Gates for Stamford Bridge, subject to receiving planning permission for the expansion of the stadium capacity.

We were fortunate to receive over 500 high-quality entries from around the world.

Due to this large number of impressive submissions, the Special Gates Committee found that selecting a shortlist was an incredibly difficult task.

We found many of the designs to be original and imaginative, and we greatly appreciate the time taken to produce these proposals.

The selection process has now identified six entries on the final short-list.

The Committee is now asking the authors of each entry on the short-list further questions aimed at helping them to develop their design.

We will keep you informed as the designs progress.

There's STILL more hurdles before the project can begin? I thought all the concerns about the railway, houses, and CPO landowners were all taken care of, otherwise, why even get people's hopes up displaying the renders for the new stadium at all?

I hope Roman and Co. get their way and there are no hiccups. Those renderings looked magnificent, and all the effort into looking for a temporary home HAS to mean the Chelsea hierarchy are confident whatever ruling has to go their way will indeed do so. Scenes, if the re-development of Stamford Bridge isn't approved.

Especially after all our preparations...

Not all the concerns have been taken care of though.

There are objections and talks in place with rail and could seriously push back time scales.

Its the rail track under the East Stand that is causing problems and a possible redesign.

This is the rail track that carries nuclear waste etc.

SB hosts tournament for change

Quote

The players are away but football is still being played at Stamford Bridge, with the Champions of Change Cup taking place for the first time in the stadium this week.It was a debut for the tournament organised by our charity partner Plan International and just under £50,000 was raised for the ‘Champions of Change’ project in Colombia.  Twelve teams took part in a series of six-a-side games on the still-immaculate turf at the Bridge, with the players representing organisations that work throughout the year with Plan, including a team of Chelsea staff. The Cup, which was handed over by Chelsea FC ambassador Carlo Cudicini, goes elsewhere however with the overall winners being Anson Security and Electrical who beat Shere Panjab Corporation in the final. The innovative Champions of Change project works with vulnerable young boys and girls in Colombia, using football to teach them about equality, respect and tolerance in a country where gangs, guns and domestic violence blight the life chances of many young people. The project is made possible by harnessing the unique appeal of football and the global popularity of Chelsea FC, with the young people keen to get involved as soon as they hear about the Chelsea link.

For girls in particular, the project is designed to help them stay in education longer, marry later and enjoy the chance to fulfil their potential. Boys are shown there is an alternative to a life of machismo and gang violence, and how important it is to treat girls and women with respect.Tanya Barron, Plan International UK’s chief executive who was present at the Champions of Change Cup, said: ‘It’s a wonderful opportunity to be here at Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea’s support, bringing together some of Plan International’s most valuable supporters in this unique setting really is something special. Together we’ve raised more than £50,000 to support vulnerable young people in Colombia. It’s a fantastic achievement everyone should be very proud of, and we are already looking forward to next year!’

Statement on fan behaviour

Quote

Chelsea Football Club has received confirmation that two supporters arrested in possession of flares at the Premier League match against Liverpool last month have received three-year Football Banning Orders, preventing them attending any matches in England and Wales. In view of the seriousness of such behaviour, Chelsea Football Club has imposed an additional club ban for a further two  years, thus preventing them attending Stamford Bridge for five  years in total. The club wishes to remind all supporters the presence of flares and fireworks at football matches is banned by law, and we work closely with police and staff at other grounds to ensure such offences and dangerous behaviour is prevented. As part of our commitment to maintain a positive atmosphere at Stamford Bridge and at away games, we also liaise with the Chelsea FC Fans' Forum and the Chelsea Disabled Supporters Association (CDSA).

The Forum has been running for 12 years and the CDSA for eight years, with both aiming to establish a dialogue between the club and fans, develop a better understanding of issues that affect supporters and provide an opportunity for the club to discuss new ideas with fans.
