Omnipollo® Niki Citra Pale is our attempt at finding the perfect balance between the hoppiness of an IPA and the drinkability of a pale ale. Resting at 5.5 % abv and meditatively hopped with our single most favorite hop - Citra - it drinks as beautifully on its own as it does paired with fatty foods such as a pizza or a burger. Sit back, sip back and relax. Cheers.

Experts Just Named a $30 Bourbon the Best Whiskey in the World

https://gearpatrol.com/2019/03/25/henry-mckenna-10-year-san-francisco-best-in-show-whiskey/

In the 19-year history of the San Francisco Spirits Competition (SFSC), only one bourbon had ever claimed the title “Best in Show, Whiskey.” You can make that two now.

The prestigious competition is routinely dominated by the Scots, Japanese and Irish, but a $30 bottle of bourbon, Henry McKenna Single Barrel, just prevailed. What’s so special about it? A combination of valuable factors that have become hard to find in the bourbon world: affordable pricing, widespread availability, Bottled-in-Bond status, a significant 10-year age statement and obviously high flavor marks (it was also our favorite Bottled-in-Bond bourbon of the year). Heaven Hill Distillery, the maker of the winning bottle, also made the only other bourbon to win SFSC’s best whiskey — Parker’s Heritage Collection bagged the title in 2009.

For the uninitiated, SFSC is the largest and most important spirits judging event in the world. More than 40 judges take part in nosing and tasting over 3,000 separate expressions, with “Best in Show” bottles earning a badge that guarantees both quality and a quick sell-through. This bottle, which can be found in most places for $30 to $40, may have just ascended to cult status. Stock up while you can.

Otherworld | Immersive, virtual, mind-bending reality

ea41bffb5e28c756ca9f554f1d788e7a.png

We’ve found London’s greatest escape artists.

They’re the people behind Otherworld, an all-new immersive virtual reality arcade & bar in East London.

“But wait,” you quite reasonably interject, in this imaginary scenario “aren’t all virtual reality experiences kind of immersive or whatever? What makes these guys so special?” Well, no. Because at Otherworld you go far beyond just slapping a smartphone against your nose. Allow us to explain:

First off, you’ll enter the arcade itself – it’s in an old railway arch which they’ve transformed with neon-soaked, cyberpunk details, and filled with cool-looking cylindrical chambers. These are called the ‘immersion rooms’, and you and your buddies will each get your own one. Don’t worry though, you’ll all still be able to hear each other.

Inside they’re rigged with multi-sensory widgets that’ll make everything that little bit more immersive, meaning you’ll be able to “feel the sun beat down on your face as you emerge from the cave, feel the wind in your hair as you slide down a vast mountain and feel the thud beneath your feet of a new land to explore.” You’ll strap on your state of the art VR headset, and dive in.

There are 16 games to pick from in total, meaning you can “paint in 3D with light and fire”; dance with lightsabers; climb a full-scale Everest; “stride the earth like a giant” in Google Earth VR; blow up robots with laser cannons in Space Pirate Trainer; fight zombie hordes in Arizona Sunshine; and play a surreal game called Accounting Plus which they apparently “can’t explain”.

After the games, you’ll be able to decompress in either their bar/restaurant or their First Class Lounge, which is like a private dining room… only it has 360 degree art projections animating your surroundings, and a self-serve beer tap pouring house-brew lager. The food all comes from Lords of Poké (and includes poké bowls, Hawaiian pulled-pork tacos, teriyaki sliders, etc.) and the cocktails have all been designed by an ex-Milk & Honey mixologist. And then?

It’s back to reality.

THINGS TO DO
Curiosity Kino

https://lostlectures.com/events/curiosity-kino/

This is something special.

Get ready to get dressed up, walk down a red carpet into a beautiful old 1930s Art Deco cinema surrounded by paparazzi, and take in six fascinating talks from a line up of extraordinary speakers ...with cocktails.

This is Curiosity Kino, the latest eccentric endeavour from The Lost Lectures (who regularly host provocative, stimulating, mind-expanding, eyebrow-cockingly intriguing talks on fascinating topics inside unique, hidden venues across the capital).

This particular instalment – which is in London for one night only – is bringing a glitzy, bygone-era Hollywood vibe to the fading glamour of the historic cinema it’s taking place in (which, it should be pointed out, has recently been reopened after spending the last three decades dormant). It’s also bringing a red carpet for you to walk in on; roaming paparazzi; old-school cocktails; wonderful theatrical set design; some flashy multimedia projections; and, amongst several speakers on the night, an actual bona fide Oscar winner. Guests are encouraged to dress the part.

Speakers on the night will include:

Andrew Whitehurst: the aforementioned Oscar-nabbing visual effects artist, known for his work on Skyfall, Paddington, Harry Potter, and Ex Machina (for which he won the statuette). He’ll be pulling back the veil behind some of cinema’s slickest SFX.

David McCandless: an information designer & data artist (which are some first-class job titles) known for ‘Information is Beautiful’ – he’ll help you make sense of the world with his latest strikingly elegant infographic creations.

Alexandra Ma: a journalist & specialist on both China and surveillance, Ma will give you a rare behind-the-scenes peek into the great, terrifying, Black Mirror-episode-come-to-life that is China’s ‘social credit experiment’.

Sara Gibbs: “recently diagnosed as a comedy writer”, Sara has contributed to The Mash Report and even co-founded a fantastic satirical online women’s magazine (Succubus). She’ll be exploring the perilously fine line between reality and satire.

Alex Baranowski: a Tony-nominated composer and composer of the BBC’s score for the World Cup, Alex has collaborated with artists like The XX, Underworld, and Jungle. He’ll be creating a live “wall of sound in 4D” which sounds exciting, whatever it is.

Professor Sophie Scott: Professor of Neuroscience, Head of Speech & Communication at UCL, and regular BBC science contributor, Sophie Scott will be talking about the science of laughter...

...which - like all of the Lost Lectures - is a funny thing to give a talk on.

NOTECuriosity Kino will take place on April 13th at a secret location in Zone 2. You can get tickets (£30-£42) and find out more at their website right HERE.

The only 2 countries that produce more music on the top 250 biggest global labels than Sweden are the US and the UK. We have 10 million people, The US and the UK have a combined 400 million.

Omnipollo X Buxton Yellow Belly Peanut Butter Biscuit Stout

wooot woot

sooo jummi

https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/omnipollo-buxton-yellow-belly-peanut-butter-biscuit-stout/280975/

This beer is a collaborative effort together with our good friends—and world class brewers—at Buxton Brewery (UK).

Yellow Belly—a person who is without courage, fortitude, or nerve; a coward.

To us, one of the most cowardly deeds is to act anonymously, hiding behind a group. A signifying trait of institutionalized racism.

This beer is brewed to celebrate all things new, open minded and progressive. A peanut butter biscuit stout with no biscuits, butter or nuts. Taste, enjoy, and don’t be prejudiced. Brewed with aromas.

Henok Fentie, Karl Grandin, Denis Johnstone, Jake Oulsnam, Geoff Quinn, Colin Stronge

we did a wee bit of that in the past (probably an understatement to be fair, especially in her case, lolol), but my wife and I both quit right before we got married in late 2013, when I decided to pursue an academic career to the PhD and beyond level

didn't want to be known as the 'model' professor, it seemed too much of a gimmick and a vector of dis-empowerment

I ONLY wanted to be judged on my intellect

I am very cognisant of the public/private female personae and how people can be framed (and women diminished)
