Hamsik commits to Napoli

Coveted Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik has signed a long-term deal to keep him with the Serie A side until 2016.

The Slovak star's fine performances have seen him linked with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris St Germain.

But the 24-year-old has now committed his long-term future to Napoli, who he joined from Brescia in 2007.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis told Sky Italia: "He has just signed a renewal until 2016, I believe there won't be uncontrollable urges to go away (on his part).

"He's a level-handed person, he's part of our family. When he was 20, it seemed he was 30, he has always had a good head on his shoulders."

But no where near the potential everyone said he had a couple of years ago. He also has a habit of disappearing in big games.

Yes, very well said. He disappears in the big games. I believe, he became pretty complacent. Ever since, he signed his contract 2 years ago, I believe. I saw him play for the Slovak national team & he looked lost completely. Every time he plays for them he looks so pathetic, it´s not even funny to hear about his contribution to Napoli.

Hamsik is said to be craving Champions League action, and is not confident of getting it any time soon at Napoli. It's believed that he wants a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea among those being urged to make bids. It sounds to me like he's happy to play out the season in the Serie A, before looking for a move away in the summer.

His agent Mino Raiola said: "Marek is a great person, an amazing human. He has a great personality and as a player he is very close to Pavel Nedved.
"If he leaves Napoli, he would be able to play for any team in the world. If I had to recommend a player, it would be Hamsik.
"The problem is that [Napoli owner] Dino De Laurentiis does not want to sell him. I am convinced that Hamsik is not taking advantage of his full talents. He has the ability to be one of the best footballers in the world."

Overrated player, do not want. He has been in decline since 2012

I don't see how he is overrated. I don't read about him very often nor do I see bundles of praise being given to him from every other supporter on the internet. It's hard to be rated highly when a player isn't even being rated.

Rated in the sense that people still think he is a top 10 player in Serie A when in fact he is not, hasn't been himself since Cavani and Lavezzi left Napoli. He was actually benched for lot of big matches last year and this year looks like average at best. He is probably not even top 10 Serie A players atm, so 30-40m fee Napoli would want is unacceptable.

I dont watch him much, but from whoever I heard or read, it said Hamsik is playing SHIT since 2014. He was good before, I remember from CL too, but last year I heard only bad comments on him. Apparently one of worst Napoli players (considering expectations and they say that he as captain is bad leader aswell)

just one of several reports on his drop in form. But its whole Napoli that is shit these years, they played much better under Mazzari and their three tenors.

Would never want him here, and even less for 30m. Rather spend 40m on Koke if thats the case.
