Madmax

The XYZ game

Started by Madmax,

Okay this is how it works. You have to guess which club/player is represented by the 'x' or 'y' or 'z'. Pretty simple really. Once you figure out the answers, post a question of your own to keep this thing going. I'll start us off with a ridiculously obvious one -

X has been playing for Y for 9 seasons now, and is their 3rd highest goalscorer of all time, a feat he achieved this past season. X has never won the UEFA Champions League, coming very close on one occasion.

X - Kaka

Y - Real Madrid

Z - Chelsea

X is a Y (club) legend. He is also a former Copa America winner, finishing as the player of the tournament there. On leaving Y, X joined Z, Y's arch-rivals. He also later returned to Z as assistant manager, in a season where Z beat his former club Y in a cup final.

No one's getting it, so hint : Y is Chelsea. Now, work out the cup finals we've lost in recent years and take it from there. Another hint, X has a first name that sounds similar to one of Chelsea's recent managers.
