Injured Chelsea reserve Ben Gordon makes Iron loan move

Scunthorpe United have agreed a loan deal for the rest of the season for Chelsea reserve full-back Ben Gordon.

But 19-year-old Gordon's debut will be delayed by a hamstring injury picked up while on loan at Kilmarnock, which will keep him out for three weeks.

"It was us that went to Chelsea and asked the question," Iron manager Ian Baraclough told BBC Sport.

"Chelsea see we're the right club to enhance his career. He's a bright lad who's comfortable on the ball."

Young Yorkshireman Gordon came through the Leeds Academy system before moving to Stamford Bridge in 2007 for compensation.

The Bradford lad has been on loan with Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock since the summer, making 21 appearances for Mixu Paatelainen's men.

But, after picking up his hamstring injury in his final appearance for Killie, in their 2-0 win at St Mirren on Monday, Gordon will have to wait for his Scunny debut.

"I would have been delighted to have him for Saturday's FA Cup tie against Everton," said Iron boss Baraclough. "But that's been put back a little bit now."

Having returned from Colombia where he was a part of England Under 20s' World Cup campaign, reserve team left-back Ben Gordon will join Championship side Peterborough United on a six-month loan.

The defender, who played twice for his country in South America, links up with Darren Ferguson's side as they return to the second tier following promotion last season.

Gordon, 20, is yet to appear for Chelsea's first team but has made 39 career appearances over the past 18 months, in three separate loan spells with Scunthorpe United, Kilmarnock and Tranmere Rovers.

Ben Gordons loan to Peterbourogh has been cancelled due to lack of playing time. He is now back at the club playing with the reserves for the time being.

Good news!

Nice to see Chelsea actually wanting to see these young players being played, and stepping in when they aren't!

He is unlucky to be a LB at the club.

I saw him once for Scunthorpe against Cardiff and to be honest that Arsenal loanee something Thomas gave him a torrid time,
