I tried that link regarding inserting a signature and it still has the white box with a red cross in it. What i'm doing each time is to paste the URL into the Insert align a picture. Is that correct or should I be choosing one of the other options?

No you're looking for the Insert Picture button, which is below the Insert align picture option, in the bottom row of buttons. In the insert signature page, it is 6th from the left.

I've done as you suggested using the 6th button in and I'm still getting a white box with a red cross. I right click on this and it gives you an option to show picture which I click but it doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong? Two things

Firstly you're missing the "http://" from the front of that address, that wouldn't help it to work, but also

Secondly, when I try to look at that picture, imageshack tells me it cannot be found. So you need to re-host the image, as it is not actually there, hence the white box with a red cross.
