Ancelotti expects Milan exit

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed there will come a time when he leaves his post with the Italian giants.

Ancelotti has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in the summer when the Blues are expected to be in the market for a new manager.The experienced Italian was one of the names in the frame to replace Luiz Felipe Scolari before Guus Hiddink was appointed on an interim basis until the end of the season.

The Dutchman has made an impressive impact at Stamford Bridge but has always insisted he will focus fully on his role as Russia coach from the summer.

One of the names firmly in the frame to follow in Hiddink's footsteps is Ancelotti, who has been told he must finish at least third in Serie A this season.

Speaking to Il Corriere dello Sport, Ancelotti said: "Of course, I will not coach Milan forever... anything is possible.

"I would like to say goodbye with a hug, but now is not the time and our working relationship is completely in tune."

Ancelotti also revealed his admiration for Hiddink, adding: "I have always said that my foreign idol is Guus Hiddink, who has done well wherever he has gone."

Blues coy on Ancelotti

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon remained tight-lipped when questioned on whether Carlo Ancelotti could become their permanent manager in the summer.

Guus Hiddink is currently in charge at Chelsea for the remainder of the campaign after replacing Luiz Felipe Scolari, who lasted less than a season at Stamford Bridge.With Chelsea still needing to make a long-term appointment ahead of the 2009/10 season, the rumour mill is in full circle on who the club might turn to.

A list of possible candidates reportedly includes Frank Rijkaard, while it has been widely speculated Hiddink will be kept on.

Ancelotti recently hinted that his long tenure at AC Milan could end this summer, intensifying speculation that he may have moved into pole position to replace Hiddink.

However, Kenyon is refusing to be drawn on the Ancelotti speculation, stating only that everyone at the club is looking to do their best to help Hiddink in Chelsea's bid to win the title.

"I don't want to comment," Kenyon said. "We are concentrating on Guus being with us until the end of the season.

"He's continuing to progress and win us games so we are all very delighted.

"The whole agreement was for a short-term, interim period and that is how it remains."

Interesting. I don't feel as though Ancelotti is as good as Hiddink, but he is a manager very close to Hiddink's tactical capabilities. I reckon it would be a good move for us.

But judging Hiddink's recent magic at Chelsea, I would be foolish to rule him out of the possibility of staying put.

Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor and Russian international Yuri Zhirkov head a £50 million hit list of summer transfer targets being considered by Chelsea as part of the deal to bring Carlo Ancelotti to the club as their new manager.

An agreement has now been reached with the AC Milan coach, who is understood to have finally made a commitment to leave the San Siro and join Chelsea on a three-year contract.

As part of the negotiations the Italian has been promised the funds to land four high-profile players. The significant spending spree will, also, reaffirm owner Roman Abramovich's commitment after another season of upheaval.

Ancelotti is a long-term admirer of Adebayor, valued at more than £20 million, whom he tried to sign for Milan last year before the Togolese striker agreed a new deal at Arsenal.

Zhirkov, the £15 million-rated left-sided player, has been tracked by Chelsea, whose interim manager, Guus Hiddink, has also strongly recommended the 25-year-old.

Chelsea are also aware that Carlos Tevez has yet to agree a deal to remain at Manchester United, and with his two-year loan arrangement due to expire at the end of this season they are free to open negotiations. Tevez is believed to be resigned to leaving Old Trafford.

To lure the Argentine Chelsea would have to buy the player from the companies who own him. United currently pay £4 million to Tevez in wages and a £4 million loan fee to his owners. The cost to United to buy him outright is more than £20 million but any new club would have to pay even more.

Chelsea will also conduct a clear-out of some of their underperforming stars in the overhaul that they want Ancelotti to oversee. Among those under scrutiny are French internationals Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka, along with Deco.

Ancelotti, a 49-year-old Italian, has twice led Milan to the European Cup, as well as to a Serie A title, in his eight years at the San Siro. He has long been a target for Abramovich, who attempted to secure his services last summer before being persuaded to employ Luiz Felipe Scolari after the short, unhappy reign of Avram Grant.

A deal was not possible then but Ancelotti, whose contract at Milan ends this summer, has this time given a firm commitment that he will move to Chelsea. Even so, Chelsea executives are keeping tabs on other potential candidates, while Abramovich is keen that Hiddink does not completely sever his links.

Milan are resigned to the fact that Ancelotti will finally leave and have already started the process of finding his replacement. The early front-runner is the Roma coach Luciano Spaletti.

Earlier this week Guus Hiddink, who will return to Russia full-time in the summer, name-checked Ancelotti when he was asked about fellow Dutchman Rijkaard succeeding him.

“I know Frank but I know Ancelotti and other candidates whose names have appeared,” said Hiddink.

Chelsea have issued Carlo Ancelloti with a take-it-or-leave-it ultimatum over becoming Blues boss this summer.

The Milan coach has signed a pre-contract deal with the Stamford Bridge club for a three-year deal worth an incredible £18.6MILLION tax free.

The Italian flew into London for further talks about his backroom staff last week and his move looked sorted. But since then Milan have dramatically made Ancelloti a counter-offer of a new four-year deal at the San Siro worth £4.4m-a-year tax free - or £17.6m in total.

And Italian sources say they are now increasingly confident he will reject Blues owner Roman Abramovich's offer and stay put in Milan.

Chelsea are so worried about losing their man at the last minute they have demanded assurances from Ancelotti that he is still coming to join them.

So far there has been no such assurance. But friends of Ancelotti say that is because he is concentrating solely on today's clash with Juventus.

If Milan get a sixth successive victory it will secure a Champions League place for next season. And that could help make up his mind to stay in Serie A.

A close friend said: "When Ancelotti signed his pre-contract with Chelsea things were not good at Milan. It seemed best for him to move on and so the offer from Abramovich was irresistible.

"But it is not looking so irresistible now as Milan are in fine form. Five wins in a row, eight matches unbeaten and on course for the Champions League.

"The whole mood at Milan has changed. They were talking to technical area manager Leonardo De Araujo about taking over from Ancelotti but not anymore - now all they are interested in is keeping the man they've got. And they feel they are winning the argument.

"Ancelotti likes his life in Italy and is happy and secure at Milan where he has a great relationship with Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani - warm and friendly.

"He's worried he won't have the same warm relationship with Roman Abramovich and Frank Arnesen at Chelsea. Or the same control as he does at Milan.

"So there are growing doubts in his mind and instead of it being a closed deal it is now 50-50 whether Ancelotti stays or goes."

According to reports in today’s edition of the Corriere dello Sport, Carlo Ancelotti will announce his decision to quit Milan and join Premier League giants Chelsea after this weekend’s round of Serie A games.

Milan play away to Udinese on Saturday and a win would mathematically guarantee the Rossoneri a spot in next season’s Champions League.

With qualification to Europe’s premier club competition out of the way, Ancelotti will finally remove doubts over his future. All the indications point to the 49-year-old heading for the exit after almost eight years in charge.

It is claimed the ex-Parma and Juventus tactician will pen an agreement with Chelsea and is ready to commit to the London side until 2013, with his wages likely to be around €6.5 million per season.

Milan have allegedly offered Ancelotti a two-year extension to his current deal, which expires in 2010, but the former Italian international is expected to reject it after being criticised by club president Silvio Berlusconi this week.

Berlusconi reportedly blamed the coach for Milan’s disappointing season during a conversation with a group of Italian tourists in Sharm el-Sheikh.
