Ricardo Quaresma could be used to fund Inter’s renovation in exchange for either Ricardo Carvalho or Bruno Alves.

The Portuguese winger was brought in under the strict instructions of Jose Mourinho just before the end of the summer transfer market, but was a flop and has been loaned to Chelsea.

Now the Nerazzurri plan to at least recoup some of the £20m spent by using him to lure a new defender to San Siro.

Once again Mourinho is reportedly looking for a Portuguese international and has set his sights on Chelsea’s Ricardo Carvalho.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Quaresma would be used as bait to release Carvalho from Stamford Bridge.

Quaresma could also be offered to his former club Porto in order to bring in Bruno Alves.

Newspapers in Italy today suggest that Mourinho has set out a list of changes to bring Inter Champions League success, but it would cost around £70m.

JOSE MOURINHO is planning a double swoop on Chelsea this summer - with Ricardo Carvalho and Mikel John Obi in his sights in a combined £21million move.

Inter Milan chief Mourinho is hoping to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding Chelsea at the end of this season, as the club waits for a new manager to take over, by swooping for some of the players he first signed for the Blues.

Centre-back Carvalho, 31, has played only two games in the last four months because of a hamstring problem, but Mourinho is set to offer around £6m for a player who is rated as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Inter have already had talks with Chelsea about Portugal star Carvalho who was one of the first players Mourinho signed – from his old club Porto – when he arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2004, and was a key part of the side he led to back-to-back league titles.

Mourinho, who has also targeted £25m-rated midfielder Mikel, wants to move in and grab players before Chelsea’s new manager - expected to be Carlo Ancelotti - gets in and becomes fully acquainted with his squad.

Chelsea will be reluctant to let Carvalho go but a potential replacement has already been lined up in Porto’s £15m Bruno Alves. Carvalho’s poor injury record this season will also be a factor, and with new arrivals sure to come in over the summer, the club could decide to cash in.

Inter have already had talks with Mikel’s agent John Shittu, with the Italians offering about £15m.

Mikel, 22, was signed by Mourinho for Chelsea in 2006, but was expected to be offered a new deal by the club at the end of this season.

His current deal runs out in 2011 and he has been offered a highly lucrative five-year contract by Inter, having fallen behind Michael Essien and Michael Ballack under Guus Hiddink.

They can take Riccy, he is getting beyond his peak...

But Obi? No, we should keep him, he is still young, and alot of optimists are saying one day he could be one of the best in the world.

Carvalho is a very real possibility to move on this summer for a number of reasons.

1. Age - into his 30's now and it is no secret that we want to bring the average age of our squad down, we are very strong with centre backs so Riccy could be prone to being moved on.

2. Injuries - Suffering more and more with injuries, which happens to players as they get older, and we want to minimise regular injuries if at all possible.

3. Quality is position - I think it is going to be very hard to have Terry, Carvalho, Alex and Ivanovic all in our squad next season. All of them would be first choice for most teams and i am sure would be be happy with limited playing time next season.

4. Mancienne - Everyone would like to see Mancienne come through, and the only way to do that is for him to be 4th choice centre back. It is also anther homegrown player who has great quality and can grow into a top top player. To allow him to progress we need to let one of our current centre backs go.

Unless Alex or Ivanovic are desperate to leave i think we would probably let Carvalho go.

Agree with that. The players retirement home Serie A, where the pace is slow and the sun sets slowly is a real possiblity for Carvalho -back with his old manager. Mikel is worth hanging on to,and Mancienne needs games.

If theyre on about Mikel and Carvalho for £21 million they're having a laugh when Alonso is touted at £23 million.....

Sell Carvalho...

we got Ivanovic, Mancienne and Alex. He is good, no doubt about that! but age is catching up with him. =(

and for Mikel.... I have no idea whether we should sell him or not. Why not tag a 'buy back' price?

Ricky was one of the best defenders in the world until he got hit with injuries, his age has caught up with him and I believe Alex will overtake his position. I don't have a problem selling him, but Mikel Obi we must keep.

Carvalho on Jose's radar

skysports

Inter Milan manager Jose Mourinho is thinking about a possible summer bid for Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho.

The Portuguese centre-back played under his compatriot at Porto before moving to Stamford Bridge in a Ł19million move in 2004.And Mourinho now confesses that he would like to join forces with Carvalho, who has the UEFA Champions League experience Inter crave, for a third time.

The 31-year-old was linked with a move to Italy last summer but a transfer failed to materialise as Mourinho settled in at Giuseppe Meazza.

However, Mourinho has now hinted that he could look to take advantage of Carvalho's injury-hit season and the managerial uncertainty in West London.

"Carvalho is one of the best central defenders in the world," he said in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"A year ago it was impossible to think of him. Now I think it is."

Carvalho is fantastic but i agree with most of you lads he is going over 30 still quality but we need space for younger players.

Winning the Fa Cup i can see him go with quite an amount of silveware won during his stay at Chelsea.

Legend!

Inter have long since been linked with a move for Chelsea's Ricardo Carvalho, largely because the defender is known to be favoured by ex-Blues boss and current Nerazzurri coach Jose Mourinho.

The player himself attempted to dismiss speculation surrounding a future for him away from Stamford Bridge yesterday, stating that he was focused on turning out for Chelsea next season.

But Mourinho, writing in his column in the Sunday Telegraph, has blown this transfer story wide open yet again with a frank appraisal of Carvalho's prospects of playing in Italy.

The Portuguese manager wrote, "One player who would improve us at Inter is Ricardo Carvalho.

"He is not playing at Chelsea now and it looks like Alex is in front of him, so maybe it is better to let him come here and play."

One reason that the 'Special One' is looking to strengthen his back line is in order to be able to compete with Manchester United, who ousted Inter from the Champions League this season.

"We have just won Serie A with Inter but I know United are better than us," he confessed.

"We were very close to beating them, so if we improve we will be close, very close to the teams from The Premier League. But it is very difficult to get players."

Carvalho, 31, served under Mourinho at Porto for two years, ending with the 2004 Champions League victory, before joining his boss in a move to London.

If the two end up being reunited again, Mourinho could face criticism from some quarters for publicly announcing a transfer move for a player under a lengthy contract at another club: this is regarded by some as a form of 'tapping-up'.

On the other hand, public transfer speculation is nothing new, least of all in the build-up to the summer market.

According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, Inter are looking to sign Chelsea duo Deco and Ricardo Carvalho during the close-season.

Nerazzurri head coach Jose Mourinho knows Carvalho well as he managed the Portugal international defender at Porto and was responsible for taking him to Stamford Bridge for around €22.7 million (£19.85m) in 2004.

It is claimed that the centre-back has fallen down the Blues' pecking order after injury restricted the 31-year-old to just 18 first-team appearances this season.

Deco, meanwhile, made an explosive start to his career with the west London outfit but soon failed to live up to expectations and made just 22 starts throughout the 2008-09 campaign, in part due to injury.

Mourinho recently signed a new contract with the Serie A giants and it is reported that they have promised to back him with significant funds over the summer.

Apparently, the 'Special One' is hoping to buy the pair for a fee in the region of €13.7m (£12m).

Makes sense, we need to lower our average age, could raise some transfer money and more dinosaurs head to Italy. seems like a good deal all round
