A friend of mine is trying to collect the partitures of old guitar tunes, to publish them.
He is looking for traditional songs, 19th century, that have no copyright, of the North American - British genre of music.

We know of "Oh Susannah", also "Buffalo gals" that used to be my forum theme when that gadget was working.
Can you name some others just as famous ?

I found:

Oh Susannah
Buffalo gals
Camptown races
The Linclonshire poacher

But tomorrow we are going to ask the copyright authority as I too think it's only for performances (the 70 year rule).
Otherwise we can include in the lessons Beatles songs, Hollies, Kinks, Donovan, Shadows  ...

So he wants to publish the songs for guitarists to play?

I think the biggest question he needs to ask himself is what market does he want to reach as I find it difficult to think someone would want Oh Susannah and Lola.

I was thinking he only wanted traditional folk type songs. Theres many like that on that link I gave you. Many that are remembered still.

But the 70 year rule wouldn't include any of the bands you mentioned.

I don't know.
This fellow has been on the job for many-many years.
Even designed new types of guitar.
The examples included in other books are many. Classical-pop-Dylan-traditional.
It's progressing though. I am helping with the creation of e-books.

Nice one!

I spent several years locked in a flat with 6 mates playing nothing but Dylan and Floyd doing lots of self medicating!

The plan has changed.
Instead of the old timer songs we want the current top of the pops.
There is another one who knows about these things and he says that for books with lessons there are no restrictions.

Which ones would you like to see in the lessons ?

Nor can I read music.

I do like to bang on me bongos or Bodhran and give my didgeridoo a go!

I ask because I don't follow the top ten like when I was a teen.
These days I only listen to somber music - Bach's funeral march.
Anyway I finished the book.

Nice one mate.

Ive not bought anything 'new' since '85 I should'n't think. Tho i've downloaded the odd CD Torrent of bands I like. The majority of my collection are rare soul singles pre '73 But got a couple hundred funk/Jazz Funk 12".

Good luck with the book tho.
